now thats one I cant answer as I dont have gauges in mine yet but from previous experience I've heard that 80-90 degrees oil temperature is the norm.
1 thing to remember is that these engines heat up VERY fast, and I mean fast so dont be worried by it if you see the temp gauge up to normal in less than 5 minutes.
When checking a car over, do the normal checks you'd do on any car. Check for worn suspension, unusal rattles, knocks etc, rust in the boot/arches etc etc.

been to look at the black 1 in sheffield today, and WOW, i'm missing it already. have immediately fell in love with it,lol.
the guy was a copper n all so felt weird when giving it a bit. really nice guy and wasnt afraid to tell me any issues which he has had (MAF sensor problem). front drivers arch got a little crease in it, but he said he will have that fixed no problem if i decide to have it
the power difference compared to my cupra r was awesome. going to look at the silver 1 shortly with my brother and then getting a few insurance quotes over the next few days then ill have a little think about what im going to do
didnt stop smiling all the way home, haha

Keith Michaels - moley -on here is the one to speak to very helpfull
A-Plan - but speak to the thatcham office
others use Sky and Adrian Flux but not used them so dont know what they like

300 bhp and 370 lb/ft?? Theres no way thats on a TD04
Did the owner know anything about the mods on the car or have reciepts?

just had a look and see what you mean, didnt notice that today when looking at it, unsure to why that could be
went to look at the silver 1 tonight aswell, and its looks and feels spot on, my bro checked it over, but i dont like the paddle clutch, needs to much revs to stop it stalling and the exhaust system is just way to loud imo. also its up for 5.5k from the trader and dont think its worth that really, other than that its mint, just dont think i could put up with that clutch

out of the 2 I would have said the silver is the better car and theres a more comprehensive list of whats been done.
The figures dont add up on that black one so unless the owner knows EVERYTHING thats been done to it then his 300bhp and 370 lb/ft is a myth. You might find that Enginemapper has all the answers, but if I was parting with that much £ I'd want to know from the owner.
When I bought mine, the owner had all the mods done professionally but knew every nut and bolt. He had every reciept in paper and scanned onto PDF plus a wallet full of history. He was a buyers dream and gave me a lot of reassurance.

The more I look at the pics of that black one you went to see the more the wheels look freaky to me.
In pic 9 it looks like its on 15" wheels, from the side the rears look like 18's and the fronts 17's and for the money it just doesnt seem right.
Have you considered getting a JDM Blobeye Sti? You could get one for 7k or less with DCCD, intercooler spray, 6 speed etc etc.

the 2nd one looks nice, although im not sure at running 380bhp, that i would get insured for a decent price
getting a few rough quotes tomorrow so atleast i no where i stand then price wise
not managed to speak to the guy yet about the black 1, but spoke to the engine mapper and he said he remembers the car and it should only be running around 275bhp and around 350 torques, so the guy seems to have got it a bit wrong, but other than the receipt there is no proof of the bhp etc unless its put on a dyno.
the wheels are all defo 17" as i checked them all
gonna put a few questions to the guy tonight see what he replies
i could easily enough push my budget to 8k no problem, but i would maybe like a standard ish sti 04-06 plate with less than 50k mileage if possible
got to the stage now where im even thinkin of testin an evo 8, just for comparison, as my bro (who is a mechanic) says id be better gettin an evo, but im not one to judge as i have no evidence or knowledge on either car that much really

as I said in my PM mate, that black one is going to be headaches.
Running 215/45/17's on the front and 215/50/17's on the back is a massive "diff shattering" no no plus it must have had a turbo swap to be running 350 lb/ft, which by now will be slowly eating the gearbox and stressing the internals.

Mate, my advise would be to stop looking at WRX's and got for an earlier STi.
You can get a very nice 2004 blob sti with 50k on it for less than 7k and its in a different league to a wrx.
6 speed, more power, bulletproof etc. Thats where i'd be spending my money

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3309765.htm
These are just examples. Also, 1 thing i've learnt is that to get the right car you might have to travel so be prepared to look further afield

yeah thats what i was thinkin, an STI would be better overall, just gonna have to travel further to look at a good 1, unless 1 closer to me springs up. the 1 in ireland is nice, just dont think i would want to travel that far just to look at a car i may not like or end up buying if ya no what i mean
suppose im in no rush to get a new car like, so i could hold out, gonna take some time i guess to find the right car
