Thats for the carriers/networks to arrange with RIM and pass on to their customers, RIM doesnt charge the user, it charges the network. But something should be done I think.
Latest word is that BIS will be back by 8am Wed UK time. We shall wait and see I guess.
I can understand the frustrations of not receiving the service, so support some of the moans out there, but the end is nigh people really need to get a grip lol.
Right, im off to order my iPhone.

There are lots of thefts of fibre optic cables now, normally by muppets who think its copper or are into making those nice xmas trees but it causes more hassle when they steal fibre as it carries more traffic

You won't believe this but I was in a meeting yesterday and happened to make a comment about my BB Curve in that I was getting the "black screen of death".
It just so happened that an IT bod was there with access to a drawer full of new BB Torches.
So he swaps my sim card and goes through the setup rigmorale to the point where I have to phone IT Services to re-sync contacts etc.... Hence since then I've been unable to go through the setup procedure on the new phone as it just times out.
What a coincidence as this was just around lunchtime yesterday and here I am tonight with two phones. One old one I can't go back to but can still view contacts, and a new one with no contacts, no email access. Just phone and text. Oh well, a few hours of tapping in contacts coming up..
And before anyone suggests, these workphones are so restricted we can't simply plug them into a PC and draw off the contacts from the software provided.
I'm off to NYC tomorrow for 5 days so maybe I'll end up with no phone at all for 5 days
Nick

Strange goings on. I'm an Infrastructure Manager with an in-house BES platform and we'd seen no issues right through the last two days (as reported in the media, seemed to affect BIS devices only).
But weird stuff happening tonight. I'm getting my emails but severely delayed, nothing for ages then they all flood through at once. I got 4 emails at exactly 16:24, then nothing until 13 emails arrived exactly at 19:00.

Oooh an honest update:
The messaging and browsing delays being experienced by BlackBerry users in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, Brazil, Chile and Argentina were caused by a core switch failure within RIM’s infrastructure. Although the system is designed to failover to a back-up switch, the failover did not function as previously tested. As a result, a large backlog of data was generated, and we are now working to clear that backlog and restore normal service as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience, and we will continue to keep you informed.

Hello
Following our previous emails about the Blackberry Service we have been advised by RIM that they are still investigating the issue with their engineers. The service remains severely degraded at this time, there is currently no estimated fix time for when service will start to recover. Regular conference calls are currently ongoing.
If you’ve got any questions, call our customer service team on the usual number. You’ll need the reference number 7619358 when you speak to them.
Sorry for any trouble we’ve caused you.
Kind regards
The O2 Incident Analysis Team

BlackBerry subscribers in the Americas may be experiencing intermittent service delays this morning. We are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and we apologize to our customers for any inconvenience. We will provide a further update as soon as more information is available.

Yeah, quite! If its still due to a core switch failure, then it must have caused a shedload of routing or spanning-tree fookups to still be a problem. But still, I would have thought any half decent Cisco geezer could have sorted it by now!

The latest statement from Blackberry is as follows...
This kind of suggests that the problem itself is fixed, and now its just clearing the backlog.... Hmmmm
BlackBerry
We continue to work on clearing the message backlog in order to eliminate delays. Thank you for your patience.

Hoax chain messages have been circulating on BBM asking users to send broadcast messages to all of their contacts. This message did not originate from RIM, and we recommend that you ignore it and please do not forward. Thanks for your support.
