Mmmm. Okay. I haven't tried the phone yet just the iPad. It is *very* slow though. It has been going 20 minutes and has another hour left. Takes 7 minutes normally.

Mine timed out so needs to start the download again Looks like they didn't get their infrastructure sorted to meet demand.
JB you need to go to the help menu at the top (windows itunes) and do check for updates.

Tried to download, and it won't install on my iPhone. Just get a message saying that The iPhone "Iain's iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3200). This is after it has downloaded, backed up etc, and just before the install itself. Had several goes, and it does the same thing each time. Guess the Apple servers can't cope with the demand?

Mine has just got past the 3200 error so either a server time out error when trying to verify the firmware with Apple's servers or they have bu66ered up somewhere.

If you want a direct download to the ipsw files then try here:
iPhone
iPad
iPod Touch
Those pages have links to most, if not all, the various iOS versions. Pretty sure they simply link to Apple's servers, so the download speed might be the same. I've used the links from those pages for other iOS versions and never had a problem with them.
If you are getting an error when verifying the restore then check your hosts file (/etc/hosts )and see if you have anything for:
If so, edit the hosts file (gMask / GasMask is a free and useful utility for that on Mac) and put a # in front of the line with the gs dot apple dot com on it, save the file, reboot or flush your dns cache and then see if that helps.
I did have a similar problem with the GM, it refused to install, said the device was not eligible for this build, I was not alone and the developer forum had other users with the issue, and the solution was as mentioned above.

Quick question to do with the new IOS 5 update and itunes.
Ive downloaded IOS 5 onto my 3GS, all went smooth no probs.
The only snag is all my installed apps have dissapeared off my phone after the update, i can see all the apps that i originally downloaded in itunes but i can't see any obvious way to re-install them on my phone. Ive clicked on the icons, double clicked on them, right clicked etc but i don't see any download option.
Any ideas ?

Marcus (and others)
Having seen the names of the Ipsw files, am I wasting my time updating my iPhone to the public version having installed the GM? They have exactly the same version number.
Too late I have already done my iPad 2, but don't really want to do the iPhones as I would have to rejailbreak them.
