I think Jimbob has made a few valid points, especially one with regards to choice. If anything, the competition between IOS and Android and HTC, Samsung, RIM and Apple is really driving the smartphone industry to really innovate and really push the technology. Without this drive, we'd all still be using GSM, WAP on low-res mono LCD screens or at least move at a slow pace. I still think the car analogy works, whilst BMW are premium, Samsung and HTC could be seen as VW and Audi, they both use the same platform and are starting to catch up with BMW!

You pass off your hair brained ideas as well informed opinion but quite frankly you don't have the slightest clue about what you are talking about. 
Whilst you choose to compare the Symbian OS I suppose that anything is better than that out of date, poorly conceived OS and yes I have owned a Symbian powered Nokia and it would only ever be any good as a door stop. I suppose if Windows and Symbian do join forces then your might get an OS which is not nearly as bad as Symbian, as crap plus crap still equals crap.
I can understand other points of view very well, and if they hold merit then I will even change my mind but guess what with yours I just thank SN for this new smilie.
As for the placing of your head I wouldn't recommend sticking it your own **** as quite frankly with a brain the size of yours you will never be able to remove it, but having said that you talk out of your rear end so you may as well store your brain there as well.
And as for Apple controlling the software then I don't mind that, after all better to have QA before release rather than the Android method of QA which occurs only when a user reports a problem. Apple for the record cannot remotely remove software from your iOS products unlike Google who can remove software without your permission.
Carry on convincing yourself that your choice of an N8 means that your a maverick bucking against the tide of consumerism that is the evil Apple Corporation.
As for the Apple iPhone users (also referred to as sheep) we will continue to enjoy our Apple products. I mean imagine Apple designing the software and hardware of a product that the geneal public want to purchase and consume. I wish you well with your N8, and remember don't let the green eyed monster envelop your whole life and effect your obviously good taste.

Jealousy - no chance. I like things that work and imo I have exactly what I want, I can ring people, text, and go on the internet, I can take MUCH better pics than most other phones. If my Tomtom goes down the satnav is superb. Thats all I wanted and anything else was/is a bonus, so jealous, no chance.
Your also forgetting that Symbian was the first o/s that brought modern smartphones to the public, the first most widely used was the N95. That was genesis really as all modern smartphones were made because of it, all you have to do is add a touch screen and you`ve a modern phone.
So poorly conceived nope, out of date maybe, but it works.

Imho having to "jailbreak" a phone to make it comparable to an Android to me that is something wrong. The fact Apple has stolen ideas off other companies and phones (including the N8) and has law suits everywhere kind of shows that they don`t develop everything that you think they do, and Evil in the fact they steal off other companies.
Do I think I`m a maverick as you say? No.
Again why the need to lambast, I clearly stated what I was looking for in a phone and why I chose what I did, yet you cannot do the same just make snide comments, and attack. This is why the placing of a head came into it. If I can clearly and concisely state why I chose a particular product over another, and you cannot, what does that say about the apparent "choice" you made?
I`m a firm believer in the majority of people who buy an iPhone do so as they are doing what others do, its human nature. I have spelt out why I think what I do, people buy gadgets for gadgets sake, and also people buy things cos their peers do so, few people actually buy a phone for specific features and functions. Yet instead of discussing the point you say I`m jealous, why can`t people discuss these things without people like you spouting rubbish and avoiding the issues raised?
I also believe most people don`t need a smartphone, as the majority of people don`t use the functions on them, most people use them for texting, calling, and updating Facebook, all of which could be done off a wap phone (Nokia 3300 for example).

Is there a phone out there that looks half as good and made from as high quality materials as an iphone? While I consider function to be hugely functional I also value aesthetics. Who wants to be surrounded in a world of cheap plastic fantastic?
Its a bit like saying no I wont have an automatic Omega constellation because the quartz based Tissot is actually a little bit more accurate. The iphones appeal is not just its function but its design and the way it 'feels' special. A fashion accessory? Perhaps but you should ask why the other phones aren't called that and whether having a phone that looks half as nice but gives 5% better performance or whatever is worth it, for me probably not.

This was actually a genuine question as my contract has ended and I am in a position to get any phone I fancy within reason e.g. Vertus arent within reason. Considering how many anti iphone people there are on here I would have thought that they would be longing to offer suggestions...are there none?

Anyway back on track as I couldn't give a toss about what people think. Why is an iphone "sh1te" and is there anything that is up to its build standards and quality of materials? If the iphone is so bad then rather than just saying so please offer an alternative and state reasons as that would be far more helpful. Thanks.

Lol, sorry. Thats good to hear as the iphone 4s is the leading contender at the moment.
Im coming from a Nokia N71 so pretty much anything will be better as that was a sluggish unhelpful phone that has needed more sim replacements, rebooting and reinstalling of software than any other phone I've had before. In fact its enough to make me want to boycott Nokia for the time being.

Are not all these people that knock the iphone and promote others of similar value owners of equivalent models from rivals? Surely its not a case of green eyed monster due to lack of funds?

I got a 4s on fri morning as an upgrade for a 3gs. I got it cos it's a good upgrade from my old one and spec is good. It's super quick and super easy to use and finally the camera is up to scratch. I'm not a sheep and couldn't care less about the fashion accessory end of it. I'm not going to comment on android os as I've never had one. Few of my mates think they are great so good for them. Based on this I would say that they are prob fairly equal. Let's face up to this guys. One isn't significantly better than the other - both are at the top end of the market. Each to their own. A pointless thread imho as people won't change their mind anyway

Which was a point I was trying to exploit. If the performance of all these phones are so similar I would choose the design, build and aesthetics of the iphone over any other phone. I just read a review that said the tester was nervous about snapping the back of the Galaxy S2. To receive that sort of comment I would want it to be able to launch space shuttles to sway me to buy that.

Well I went in and got an iphone 4S today after looking at the others. No comparison really. Anyway in keeping with its high quality appearance what cases do people keep them in? Im looking at these at the moment. Any experience with either from Knomo and Sena? Does one make better items than the other?
