I know a lad from Romaina, earnt £170/ month in Romania as a teacher, earns £900 a month packing boxes here. Wife doesn't work, has now brought over his thee school age kids, and his mum is due too (as she is ill).
His contribution, packs boxes. Our contribution NHS for all 6 of them, free schooling for three kids.

Did you know that the Skills Funding Agency (formally the Learning Skills Council) are paying to train immigrants to work in the construction industry, who go on to undercut the rest of the industry and work for less.
Meanwhile our own young people are stagnating without work or training to get work.
It's people like Lisawrx spouting off refusing to listen to the truth that is allowing this to happen.
Did you see the muppets on BBC Question Time last night? Believe it or not, they were urging young people in this country that are currently unemployed to seek work abroad. This is criminal and laughable. do they not realise that to get work abroad you have to have a skill. What skills do our young people have if no one will train them!!
We are the only country who will take unskilled people from abroad and train them before our own young people.
Well done Lisawrx, keep up the good work

Sorry Les, I believe you asked what I would do about it if I was in power?
a. Reduce VAT to 5% until mid January 2012 - give the economy a big boost.
b. Increase VAT to 10% for a further 6 months - then up to 15%.
c. Abolish the punitive 20% VAT rate completely.
d. Start the Tax Rate at £12,500.
e. Flat Rate of tax at 30% for everyone - simplifies Tax system and will attract more tax.
f. Half the Tax Collection Civil Servants could be redeployed onto Benefit cheats.
g. Stamp Duty to be a Flat 1% on all properties.
h. Pensions to be paid at 75 - phase in over 10 years.
i. Benefits only to be paid if community work is carried out.
j. Only the 1st child will receive benefit.
k. Child Benefit will not be sent abroad to immigrants families as it is now.
l. Pay Companies £300 per week per Apprentice recruited and retained - with a £10,000 Bonus paid once Indentured.
m. Commence a massive House building program of low cost homes.
n. Build big ticket Military Equipment, Aircraft/Ships/Subs.
o. Housing benefit halved gradually over 2 years - make it painful not to work!
p. Abandon Trident and pay off all those involved who have selflessly given of themselves for so long - ensure the redundancy packages are extremely lucrative.

FWIW, I am not saying we should be taking in any amount of people to do jobs, I was merely stating one of the reasons why we might be in response to a comment.
Assuming we are talking about legitimate companies/jobs, why are they taking on such a large amount of foreign workers? Surely if the company is as above, they have to pay minimum wage, so why not employ our own in these roles? If it's simply so they can pay just minimum wage rather than a higher wage that the job 'may' deserve, then get mad at the companies for being greedy, not me. Get mad at the government for having such a poor system in place that makes people better off not working/even allows them to be kept full stop. A system that also encourages some people to come here to take advantage of it.
I don't doubt for a second that there are people out there that would be happy to do many jobs that foreigners fill, but like it or not there are also people who think they are above such jobs (some sitting on the dole), and couple that with the greed of companies (and to some extent them struggling with costs in some cases) and we find ourselves in this situation.
Just because I can see there is a problem with some people being unwilling to work it then makes foreign workers seem appealing as they will, doesn't make me think that is the whole picture.
Like I say, if you want to get angry with somebody, get angry with the government and businesses, and to some extent some of us for allowing this situation to come about, not me because I can see a part of it.

I think if we sent back the 1 / 2 million muslims the figures would not change very much, then you would go back to calling the blacks the root of all evil.
I suggest you look in the mirror if you want to see the real problem

1. Why do we bring these people here. We dont, they come here because for many, its a quadrupling in wages.
2. Why do we employ them. Well some of it is down to the business cycle. Five/ six years ago "foreigners" were taken when there was low unemployment. Now they have employment contracts which means you cant suddenly ged rid. It also means they have jobs and UK workers dont. Over time many have also decided to bring their extended family in.
3. Do they work for less than min wage. Some do, many on agencies where their wage is linked with a housing and rent package. Also things such as ovetime pay are eroded.

I would be interested to know which sector you work in, because soon you will be working for less, that's if your still in employment.
People don't want to stay at home on benefit, they want to do a fair days work for a fair days pay, not peanuts just because the immigrants will work for less.
And if you have kids, be very scared because their prospects without training will be limited. And if you think they have the potential to go into higher education then think again because the working class that would pay for a big chunk of it through taxation will be out of work.
The immigrant population will pay tax but this will be rebated and all monies earned will eventually go back to their country of origin.
It people like you making excuses that is allowed the Labour government to get this country in the state it's in today.

No, no, no. The middle classes ampungst the Scoobynet elite won't want to read this. As they're all of managerial positions, the cheap foreign labour benefits them so not a bad word shall be spoken.
Oh wait, I forgot as I am within the minion ranks, I should merely have tried harder ast school and I would be on their level..

Some how 'immigrant' suggests they are here for better life from overseas , from the common wealth or something - whereas in fact they are merely here to earn a better wage than they can back in Lithuania / anywhere else in the Eu . Im not saying its right

It's clear you don't know what's going on out there Lisawrx, the Logistics and construction sectors that are being decimated by an immigrant workforce are just the tip of the iceberg.

As you asked, I work in retail. And unless minimum wage is abolished, then I couldn't work for much less than I do now before I'd be below it. We are being stretched more and more each day as they can't afford to employ more staff (that they need), so they are getting their money's worth out of us. As for kids, thankfully that is not a concern, in part as I don't really have a desire to have any, plus for various reasons, I couldn't afford to have them.
I'm curious to know what you think I did.

Quite a few do, so don't jump on me claiming I don't know what is going on. Living where (and growing up) where I do, believe me, there are plenty of people perfectly happy to sit on the dole. But as I've said, I know there are many who do wish to do an honest days graft.

And that is the crux of the argument. Every time someone perpetuates the myth that foreign workers work harder, it gets us further away from what we should be doing. British jobs for British workers.

Absolute ****! There are a large number of lazy scum that want to do exactly that and can do that because our welfare state is so bloody generous. 18 months into the government that was going to get tough on benefits and absolutely nothing has changed!!!!

This is funny the same argument for almost 60yrs the only thing that has changed is the place the people come from.
English working class = contradiction in terms.
Since my fathers generation the english working man has been a bunch of lazy ******* who complain and go on strike, industry after industry has been brought to its knees by wage demands and working practices that have meant the products are not competative in the world market.
Now the sons and daughters of the once great british work force are a kin to trailer park trash in the states.
And this is not meant to enflame anyone,as we used to make some bloody good stuff, but may be thats part of the problem in the modern consumer throw it away society, making things that last and can be repaired is not good for business.
Oh and pete must be chuckeling his **** off, as he has done it again, taken us all down a route that has been done to death.
Love him or hate him, we are all dancing to his tune, yet again what a bunch of mugs

A single man gets £60 a week jobseekers allowance, hardly generous. A large proportion of benefits go to top up low wages.
