Ditchmyster , I'll be following your progress very closely as I am just about to embark on my first engine build too. I'll also be on a tight budget and I'm going to do as much as possible myself, it may all end in tears but at least it will be all my own mess
I've subsribed to your project thread but I'd love to see some pictures of your progress too, will you be adding any?

If you're mechanically minded DO IT YOURSELF! I am a mercedes mechanic, so i paid a subaru specialist, no names mentioned, the engine rattled like a bag of spanners even when warm, then the place closed!

so i grew a pair and sorted it myself! piston clearances were way out! Tuners are more than happy to pass on torque settings and clearances!

Now im running a forged engine with acl bearings at 360hp. cost about £1200!

i brought a busted wrx engine to practice before i attempted it on my P1!

if you do it yourself - you know it's done rite!

I think so, as it does not matter what engine it is you still have to do some research with regards tolerances, torque settings, and to do this you need a manuel within which all the information is contained and it's full of pictures of how everything goes together, so as long as you follow that there should be no problems.

The internet is your friend, and it's alot easier to do thing these days as there are guides and video's of how to on just about everything, as long as you follow the instructions step by step again there is no reason that thing should go wrong unless you make a mistake but thats how we learn, it is of course cheaper to learn by the mistakes of others
