Skills are built up by trying and asking when unsure.
As you can see, I've got it wrong..........that bit of plasterboard is now down and placed across the joists. I chose to put it in THE most difficult place, where I had to cut it to fit around the central "tree" of beams that support the roof. Took an entire afternoon, around four hours to get it down and supported on the lifter, then I went up the stepladder and spent ages taking measurements of how to cut it.

Once I had those, they were transferred to the rear of the board and cut out using a jigsaw and Stanley knife.

The board was then offered up and bits trimmed since some of the beams are at an angle and the cuts aren't

Finally got it in place, and am pleased with myself.

Checked on the net, it's right, plasterboard SHOULD go across, but no-one explains WHY it will crack if I don't

Oh..........one other thing about DIY, it IS reliant on having the right tools.
So anyone who wants to do it theirselves, start by buying the tools you need for the job you are going to do.

I have loads, two types of tile cutter, three types of electrical saw, two types of electrical sander, two types of angle grinder, chopsaw, p/b lifter, secret nailer, compressor, various stands, two types of electric drill, an impact driver, and handtools that I have to keep in sets of plastic drawers to keep track of them. I've probably missed some, but you get the jist?
And that list doesn't include things like the chainsaw, petrol strimmer, a self propelled and a ride-on, mower.......

Are you reading this, Andy?

Great to see pics at long last. If I had a hat I'd take it off to you!

Two and half more bits of plasterboard up today, they are ALL now across the beams.

Tomorrow I'm going to look at how to board out the angled bit from the beam down to the false ceiling............it needs false "rafters" to screw the p/b to, but I need to look at the angles to cut the wood ends at to make it sit right.

For that, I've just made myself a wooden angle-finder. Just two bits of 15 x10 mm hardwood, bolted together at one end with a wingnut to tighten it into position, and the bolt-end of the wood rounded so that nowt sticks out as you open it up.

I've got to get that bit and the rest of that area done BEFORE I start on the stud walling, since once the walls are in place, I can no longer wheel the plasterboard lifter and it's load into that area.

I've also got to cut out the loft opening I'm going to make..........IF the wood bloke ever delivers the bit of 150 x 50 mm timber I need to finish it off.
And then make a hatch for it. The ladder will be bought in the UK, they are £54 on e-bay, around €115 here

All good fun, though. Gives me something to look forward to when I wake up in the morning, a reason to get up, if you like.
