Watch some simon's cat - I'm sure Simon's cat is based on a Maine Coon.

He's just about 10 kg !

Ms Jock has always fancied getting a Maine Coon.

So how many of you owners have them as house cats only?

When we first got Casper he was a house cat. Since having him we've "trained" him to just go out in the back garden.

I think a Maine Coone's would go doo-lally as a house cat (Capser was demonstrating signs of this when we got him).

I wouldn't recommend keeping a Maine Coone as an indoor cat at all !

My friend has a maine coon, massive and really furry, needed a lot of grooming. We have 2 little moggy rescues, now 4 years old, both short hair and no trouble at all to look after, but incredibly loving and give so much back to us, both curled up on the sofa with us at the moment. I'd recommend not going for a kitten tbh, look for age 6 months onwards, personalities are more developed and you can tell what kind of cat you're going to be living with for up to 15 years or maybe more.

If you're going indoor only make sure you have somewhere for them to play/scratch or they will take it out on your sofa, google 'cat tree', they come in all shapes and sizes (and prices!). Our cats go out in the summer but I don't let them out when its dark so they don't get out much in the winter. They seem quite happy with the arrangement, seem to spend most of their time asleep!

Liking the idea so far; only thing putting me off is the yowling. Quite like the Norwegian Forest Cat, too.

I never used to be a big fan of cats, I was actually scared of them for a while. Then when Mr P met up with a old friend, we also met his lovely cat Jasey. A British Blue female and stunning!

Bengals are no where near the size of a Labrador lol , we have two one is an outdoor cat we hardly ever see him, think he's been gone for ten days now (He'll come back when he's ready) the other never leaves the house come to think of it he never leaves the bloody living room unless it's to go outside and take a ****.

A few pics if JT is considering the Bengal.

This is the outside one.

The indoor one.
(Getting pics of it outside wasn't easy, it had to be coaxed outside with a packet of boiled ham lol!)

We've just added a third to the collection a Tonkinese, it's a cross between a Siamese and a Burmese.

I was watching one of them animal rescue programs on tv a few weeks ago. They got a call about a cat that was in a backyard. They caught and caged it, then too it back to battersea dogs home.

Turned out it was a Amur Leopard cat. Quite dangerous and on the endangered species list.

They ended up sending it to a zoo in Scotland.

Isn't that one of the things they cross breed to get a bengal?

awww, some gorgeous cats in this thread

Our Siamese, who is really vocal. He's been on here before

And Jack, our rescue cat, with his best pal, Jet. Vet reckons there is some Maine in him as he is a flaming menace, but we love him

All cats are great company. I wouldn't never be without one. All the best on your search

A Maine Coon is a good looking cat but as stated they do grow very big.

Our Fearless Freddie is a Maine Coon cross. He has a nick in one ear which I was told is an identifier on those cats when they are born.

He is a larger than normal cat, we got him as a rescue cat. He is good looking and has quite a personality.

One of their traits is to bond with one person in the family but that does not mean that they are unfriendly to others...especially when hungry!

We have never regretted taking him on. I think a full Maine Coon might become a bit large but that need not necessarily become a problem.

Good old Freddie has become a full family member alright, and we did have rats in the garden which came after the bird food until Freddie dealt with the first one he saw such that it did not know what hit him! We have not seen another rat since!
