Lol thats rubbish. Neither country could ever stand on its own two feet, and its rubbish that we want to leave. Only certain xenophobic politicians that feel that. A local Plaid Cymru representative down here once said She`d "Not be happy till the roads run red with the blood of the English" lmfao.
Anyways my opinion is to go back to how we were, in the single market, but out of everything else. The European project will fail, and the Euro will fail. They will either relaunch it (at great expense) to have a multi tier Euro zone, but that imho would be a VERY bad idea. Having each country have its own currency means the single currency can be devalued, instead of bringing the house of cards down.
It is the wrong time for a referendum also, atleast until these paltry Euro discussions are over, so we know what its going to do. We may not need a referendum if the whole lot comes crashing down.

.... It costs us less than 1% of our GDP (yes, that's 45 million per day) to join a club that provides 40% of all of our trade. If my local Chamber of Commerce gave me that proportion of business for that percentage of fee I'd be more than happy (& much better off).
The EU isn't perfect. It needs a lot of work. But it's 501 million strong market gives us more opportunity than our 67 million home market ever could ...

Firstly, we would lose almost NO trade by withdrawing from the EU. Why should those countries who import our stuff then decide to import them no longer? There are other trade agreements in place that guarantee that that would not happen.
Secondly, the 40% figure you give is complete hogwash anyway. 80% of all the UKs trade in done INTERNALLY to the UK. So, no loss there then. External trade is split 50/50 between the EU and the rest of the world. So 10% only, of TOTAL UK trade, goes to the EU. Even if we lost that? I think we'd do a Gloria Gaynor!
So, the arguments for staying in are?

There is not going be be a referendum any time soon.
Got that?
No goverment is ever going to call a poll on an issue it knows it would lose!
And Cameron, Clegg, Miliband, Brown, Blair, Major know/knew that to lose and have to leave the EU would wreck the UK economy.
Not even Maggie "No! No! No!" 'Iron-Lady' Thatcher contemplated leaving the EU.
So a referendum's just not going to happen. At least not until the polls indicate a 'Yes' vote to stay in.

Bright looking future, then!
Personally, I'd rather thrive than survive.

You can't have a fair, free market based on a level playing field without common legal structures, matched employment laws and similar social structures.
We can't deal with the big issues (polution, defence & security, migration, energy sufficiency, a looming world trade war (Republican USA vs China?), international banking crisis, global warning... ) without pooling sovereignty.
Along with Germany and France, the UK should be right slap-bang at the heart of Europe running it and shaping it instead of running off and shipping out.

Sam, do you think we should (or already should have) adopt the Euro? (hand/smoke signals acceptable )
It's unusual to see such a pro-Euro poster who isn't a politician, assuming you aren't of course.

PS He's just mimed, "Euro?, don't care either way, but in 2006 a £ could get you 1.55 Euros, today you get 1.13 Euros to the £. Which is the failing currency, then? Which has more in common with the groat?"

Its about fairness. Where i work there are people doing exactly the same job as full time workers for 70% of their pay. They have been on agency for over three years. Agency is meant to be about temporary working, this is expoitation. Its taken the EU to stop this practice, and i for one agree with it. Thankyou EU.

Or, do you mean the foreign workers who clean up the pi5s, **** and blood in the care homes full of our elderly who we can't be bothered to look after ourselves?
Why take responsibility for our predicament when we can just whine on and on and blame the EU, immigrants, politicians, EVO drivers, ...?

So these immigrants bleeding us dry, are they the scalpel-wielding surgeons working in the NHS, like the Egyptian who did my wife's shoulder op last year? ...

I stock my own fridge myself, thanks (and several other people's as well).
Several members of my family studied health, anatomy and physiology and worked in the NHS and we try to run a healthy life style so we're all pretty healthy, thanks for asking.

I like it better here but my English wife prefers the Carribbean. Guess I'm addicted to rain!

So when the German firm BMW decides to spend £500 million in the UK expanding the MINI plant to build the new Mini Coupe and Roadster models will the new jobs be German jobs (for Germans, presumably?)??
Or will they British jobs (but not for Germans, or Poles, or ..?).
I'm confused.

I think I already answered that one with the British jobs for British people comment, In times like these we should be looking after our own before anyone elses.

In any case, it is easier for me than it is for you. I've got the benefit of class, a good education, pushy parents, good skills, qualifications and vision. I was always going to do well.
'Your' government needs to look after you more than it needs to look after me.
