I got a camera lens from Jessops in Leeds. It was about £30 more in-store than on their website, so I went outside, reserved it on my phone, got the confirmation e-mail and walked back in to collect it. Crazy.

I have no idea why those you mention do not put IS into their Binos ... maybe a few reasons:-
1. They don't have the Technology
2. Their audience is rather slow in the uptake of technology
3. They don't think there is a need
4. It will make their Binos too expensive
I suspect that it is 1. above .... they would have to buy the technology in.
Canon, on the other hand, have cracked the Technical aspects and are exploiting them.
Also, I'm not about to buy anything from Hong kong ..... not at that value!! How the hell do you return them is they are faulty? Nah ... savings aren't worth it IMO.

Savings I had were a few hundred pounds though, which was worth it.

I've always got a good discount from Jessops - I just tell them how much I can get it for on the net and ask them to match it and they always have. Perhaps they just didn't like the cut of your jib...

They said that £339 was the cheapest on the High Street .... so, they wouldn't knock £20 off!!
Looks like they don't need the business?
I may contact the boss man and tell him how the faceless manager, sat in a back office on their fat 4rse lost him a sale and a profit ............ I'm sure he would be most interested

It depends how the letter is worded ..... I have a way with words.
Jessops cannot afford to let sales of £300+ Binoculars go unrealised ... that is the route to ruin!
2 in stock - 1 could be sold at a good profit - muppet manager decides they don't want to sell and don't want to move stock (these things are not top of everyones list of purchases .... not at the end of summer!).
I'm pretty sure the boss man would be VERY interested in how profits are being turned away.

Yes, Pete - if I were a high street retailer, I would like nothing better than to have some superannuated self-styled wideboy come into the shop and attempt to skank me so badly I couldn't afford to pay anything towards my ground rent/lease, heating bills, business insurance and employee's wages, let alone make any profit. You're a godsend to this country.

Product = £340
Offer Price = £320
That's a discount of 5.8% ..... what is the Staff Discount? 20%?
So don't come the, "I can't afford to feed the family if I sell for less" bollox with me!

Buy it somewhere else off of the 'tinterweb, then. Unless you prefer to browbeat honest retailers and their employees for nothing more than your own warped sense of self-satisfaction.

You did say that to sell at 5.8% discount would mean them going out of business .... you are wrong, as you know.
Which renders your last post as an equal load of crap ......

In my world, that's the real world, this situation would result in going out of business ... my statement still stands - and your statement is, as I said, rendered as utter bollox.
I'm sure your single operational brain cell can work the above out

As I also said, buy it off of the internet, unless you enjoy making people doing an honest day's work feel like ****.

They would feel ABSOLUTELY GREAT had they sold a £320 pair of binoculars to some daft old fart who could have bought them cheaper on the internet - but is led by some silly, old fashioned, desire to help the local shop!
I'm going to try my hand at a smaller privately owned camera shop tomorrow ... I bet I come away with a deal.
The killer words are, "If we can agree a price, I am buying right now" ............ it usually gets them dribbling down their fronts
