It was the sound for me and sheer power for a standard 4 door saloon....

Went to look at a Mitsubishi 3000gto twin turbo, got there and there were some squeaks coming from all the belts and pulleys at the front of the car, after researching it this was something I was happy to walk away from, spotted the scoob sitting in the corner of the pitch looking a bit sad for itself and totally standard, my old man took it for a test drive, came back, and said "if that's not quick enough for you, ya fookin sick", deposit on it there and then, picked it up a week later, never looked back in nearly 8 years of ownership, have no intention of ever selling it, spent thousands on it and intend to go further at the right time.

Main reason I bought it I guess was my dads reaction to the test drive, he comes from a motorbike background and he reckoned it was as close as you could get to motorcycle acceleration on 4 wheels, good enough for me!!

Bought my first one when I was 24, 11 years ago because it was cheaper to insure than a Escort Cossie. Had a year and a bit away, owning a bag of spanners, ST205 GT4, and came back to a V5 Type R.

Was about to buy a volvo d5 when i came out of the sales office the valeters had just parked a black blob in the show room, and i fell in love with it and it was £5k cheaper, no brainer.

Then i went back to company cars, but missed having a scooby so sold my motorbikes and bought a type r as the blob was a bit too civilised and i like the rawness of the classic, and the fact they are lighter and take more driving.

Think most agree if you want a pratical 4 seater with reasonable performance, good reliability and cheap to buy it can't be beat. Even if I won the lottery I would still keep a scoob in the collection. First car I have had that I don't worry about come Mot time, all later fords I had were always needing front arms for Mot every couple of years and my last one a mk6 escort rs2000 was not much better on fuel than my current sti, and living at the top of a steep hill the 4wd is great in the winter. Only other car I considered was an e46 m3 but I know in the winter I wouldn't be able to get home and I wouldn't sleep with my car not at home

Was learning to drive as a 20-21 year old and found out I could insure an Impreza Sport reasonably (£1600) back in late 2005. So bought one and kept it off road until I passed my test in March 2006. Had 4 now with the most recent after a 3 year sabbatical due to financial situations.

Read about it in 1998 when the motoring magazine were raving about the performance car of the decade
Loved the noise and the aggressive front end and bonnet l
Saved my pennies and finally got my greenwagon in June 2000 and still have it to this day

Added my wrxd to the fleet in 2009 and saving hard for my next addition to the fleet

i had a super chipped saab coupe - google torque steer and you'll probably see a saab changing lanes without touching the steering wheel!!
The reason I bought my first Impreza turbo was we had just had our second child and my wife said I should get something practical for a young family to get in and out of. So I did, got a wagon. Now on my third an sti5 wagon and its my perfect car. The very definition of practical I think you will agree. Mrs the wife never said anything about economical - clearly said Practical.......................

Default Why buy Sube?

Had 110 mile a day cross-country commute

so I wanted:
  • the best handling
  • quickest
  • all weather
  • less than £20k
  • stealthy
  • non-intimidating
  • A & B road dominator

... that had space for my coat & briefcase.

Bought a six-month old MY'99 Turbo Wagon.

Loved it so much that I kept I when I got a newage WRX PPP wagon (good, but not great like the classic!).

Always loved the background, always knew I'd have one, have always turned my head when one goes by.
Got a Sport when I was 23, kept it whilst I got a house, did it up...... Then the mrs dropped twins, so kept it whilst they drained the money had it for 7 years in the end.... 2010 was a good year at work so knew I was gonna blow some cash and bought an 03 STI.
Now that is draining all my cash BUT it's an amazing drive and puts a massive smile on my face.
Why did I buy it?
The look, the sound, the fact that everyone knows what scoobs are about.

After seeing Colin rallying it was the car I wanted
Then seeing Tiff Needell on Top Gear in 1999 going to Holland and saving 6k on a Rover I bit the bullet and ordered from a Subaru dealer in Rotterdam ..
6 months later I was the proud owner of a my00 Impreza Turbo in Royal Silver .. saving 5.5k on the UK price
I still have the car today ( now up to 355bhp/355ftlb )
I would not change it

6 years ago wife was into car booting and neither the Porsche nor the 16V Clio could cope LOL

Don't like boring cars so bought a cheap early wagon. Wife loved it even tho it was slower than the Porker, so she sold it and purchased a MY97 saloon instead (and kept the thousands saved in the bank). Clio started to play up so sold that and the first Scoob (cos it didn't have aircon) and bought a MY97 wagon. Had them ever since, although we did try a 53 plate blobeye a few years back. Soon sold as it was too slow and boring. Put the money back in the bank and Prodrived the classics instead. Don't really consider them performance cars but not bad for family cars.

Have found the old classics can be problematic daily drivers (usually reliable but when they go wrong they go really wrong) so have a couple of Fiestas hanging around, just in case. Son has just got his first job so he is having the 1.25 Festa and we are keeping the Zetec S for a couple of years until he can afford the insurance. He wants us to get a Clio 182 for him after that LOL

And all that cos the wife wanted to do some car booting LOL

Wanted another Forester S/Tb import, but the UK Impreza was so much cheaper to insure, I went for that instead.

I wanted a quick car with 4 doors and boot that I could mod myself to make it my own, to be able to take out the girlfriend and kids,
But then get masive smiles when the urge takes me for a blast.
Love MY03STI after only 3 months and spent a bit already, but already saving for a classic so can have a proper weekend toy, and good ones are so cheap. Scoob number 2 for me next year, can't wait.

Loved them as a kid I grew up and left school in 1997. Always dreamed of one as a kid!

So I bought one, I was debating about buying one, and discussed it with my boss, he said to me "if u want one, just buy it, worst case u cannot afford it you can sell it, least u can say u have had one even if its just for a month lol"

18m months on and I still love it!
