However I did lower the boost somewhat and smooth the AVCS and boost delivery to pick up some spool and iron out compressor surge and boost waver. But to be honest, it wasn't at all bad before and I was a little hesitant to say I could make it a whole lot better!

The graph doesn't tell the full story either, as I'm a 'less is more' person, so tend to run the turbo as optimum as possible without really stretching it and use other means to extract the performance. Which as it happened on this car, resulted in a much more responsive drive.

I did Nigel's Type R last summer on a Simtek and I relish a challenge to try and better a cars progression and really map to suite an overall package rather than just power.

Overall I was very happy with the result for Nigel and I'm glad I saved the car from getting the chop!

Hmmm... I think you're quite modest Graham

But yes, I'm glad I didn't give it the chop, and thanks for that

Little bit of suspension fettling next

Update: Suspension Fettle

The re-map has loosed the whole car, encouraging quite quite an enjoyable level of play, so much so I decided last week I wanted to do something with too much oversteer An oversteer happy road car doesn't sit well

I fitted a Whiteline 22mm front arb and the inherited rear (WL) 22, tweaked to its firm setting (=24). This has pretty much sorted the oversteer. There is less overall roll, with less mid corner instability, if a line needed tweaking for instance. The roll stiffening has also given more overall grip and generally sharpened everything up.

I have some SuperPro front wishbone bushes to go on, but for the moment I'm just enjoying it

(Big thanks to Arnie)

Thanks. I was slightly sceptical of the the plastic bits to start with, but they've grown on me

Agreed, it really needs Brembo's, and I have a set waiting to go on, just trying to locate a set of STi wheels. The weak braking capability holds back confidence pushing on.

It seems like the V7 STI wagon was sold a bit short. The front wishbones were the steel version and not the aluminium type, so limiting future strut choices and suspension tweaking possibilities. A loving previous owner has upgraded to the alu ones, along with the more aggressive wings and bumper, and also some pink bits out back

Pic taken on the dankest of nights, will clean all that up come spring

Thanks Cheers, I know the Rev's are really a 'classic' wheel, but wtf - I like 'em on any scooby

Lowering the Scooby is a pet hate of mine if there was a 'P1' spring for the new age which lowered by about an inch (OK amount) and had good poundage rates I would jump at it, but there just isn't

Today's 120mile blast out through Shropshire's beast B's was great fun. Big, full damper travel was... needed Went over Long Mynd which is super bumpy. Any lowering of the car would have lost some of that control. Plus I wasn't looking at the car when hanging it out on those corners

TBH, I was thinking of stiffeneing the rear arb, but after today's hooning I'm going to leave it... why remove all that 'activity' (fun)

I know what you mean the ride regarding the wheels and springs etc, I had Sti shocks,H & R Springs, PFF7`s and Toyo`s on my last motor(Newage) and the ride compared to my current car on standard springs, struts, wheels was horrendus around town with the crap roads that we have

Time for an update...

The last couple of months have been beavering away on getting the car to where things feel sorted. I say this, as for me, Scooby ownership rarely starts with a car you feel 100% happy with, you've got to make her your own

As I had got the engine running nicely, attention was turned to suspension and overall driving feel. New Age Scoobys, can feel lardy, never really hiding their weight. They can never be as nimble as a classic, but in alot of ways they are more capable, sure footed and confidence inspiring. I wanted to see if I could get this wagon to the level of classic fun...

The thing which really let the drive down was the lack of steering precision, slightly mushy feel on turn-in and change of direction and a disconnected front end feel. I decided to strengthen both front & rear arbs first, going for a 22 front, ending up with this set to stiff, and a 24 rear set on middle. This is such a brilliant bang for buck mod. The whole car sharpened right up, and for the investment it could be considered a must do

Next up were polyurethane SuperPro bushings - front control arms and steering rack, combined with a Super Pro offset caster bushing. I also flipped the rear control arm pin for another half a degree of caster. All this tightened the front a treat, but the rear was now falling behind. On went a set of 'pink' STi 'pillow ball' lateral links and trailing arms plus a set of subframe lock bolts. This tipped the balance back and also mated the front and rear. Gone was the front turns in, then the rear wollows in behind it

Here's a thread on some rear work and pink bits addition

A decent set of rubber was then needed. I decided on Michelin Pilot Sports. Thread here

Last thing needed was a set of Brembo's, and new wheels, well I needed the wheels to clear the brakes ). It's amazing how a set of decent brakes can transform a drive

So here she is
