Just a quick update as i've not slept since tuesday morning and am about to pass out lol, my car is home at last along with most if not all parts i'd taken over to get fitted, will update properly tomorrow

Well that was quite a day yesterday!

As expected nobody was at the garage but my car was sat outside in the car park where i'm told it was parked when i took it back and never touched again for over 6 months. Recovered my parts from inside including a vf28, phase 2 inlet manifold, newage top mount and a stainless exhaust manifold & up pipe so that's really good, especially as the car had been left UNLOCKED!!!

With everything safely in the back of my other car we had a trip to a pub down the road for something to eat and use the free wifi and decide what course to take.

A few calls later to locksmiths and it was clear it couldn't be driven or towed, most didn't do vehicle locks, the ones that did didn't do Subaru locks so next up... tow trucks.

That didn't go great either, one could do the next day, one could do after 6 that day but the car park is gated and locked at night and we had no way to move the car out of there.

At this point things weren't looking too good but massive thanks have to go to all the guys at Webb's Auto Body Shop in the unit opposite, The most helpful and decent people you could hope to meet. They took time out of their work most of the day to help with anything and everything even though it wasn't their problem, even contacting a customer who had a tow truck and explaining the problem and helping push & lift the car onto the truck when it arrived. Tried to give them some beer money and they refused, saying seeing me get my car back was all the thanks they needed and they only wished they could help others that turned up whose cars are unfortunately locked up inside the unit.

All in all it's about the best outcome i could have hoped for, got the car and parts so thats good but still down nearly 2 grand for the work plus money for the tow, train fares, wasted insurance and tax etc.

With the engine needing more work now than it did in the first place (went there with head gasket failure, now has either a damaged piston or big end bearing failure) a wedding to pay for and a baby on the way it doesn't look like being on the road anytime soon so gonna have to weigh up my options but the main thing is, after over a year, i have my car back at last

Can't you go the County Court>> Bailifs route, and get bailiofs to seize THEIR prperty to make up your shortfall?

PS: glad mine was done by a guy who is MORE honest than the day is long, Harvey Smith.

He had my car 9 months, but that was by my choice, to allow us to find the bits it needed cheaper for a start.

You could try him, if and when yours is ready. Mine went up there on a flatbed trailer, my mate towed it as his car is heavier than our Xantia, so controlled the trailer easier.
Cost was £38 trailer hire, £26 one day insurance, and beer money to my mate.

 

Been following this and really pleased you have it back. You will probably have to write it off as a bad experience, but sounds like you have far more important things going on so enjoy those!.

Unfortunately just had some real bad news, cars at my parent's house so asked them to charge the battery... had a phone call to say there is no battery, the engine is part stripped and a number of wires have been cut

Had CDF lightweight pulleys, a lightweight flywheel and various other goodies in there so god knows what's missing as i can't get round there to check til tomorrow at the earliest.

Looks like it's gonna have to broken for spares to pay for another car now, just don't know what to do, it's shocking really.

 

Glad u got the car back finally mate. But still a shame tohear about the missing parts etc. Not on at all an if I was you I wouldnt let this be the end of it

 

Glad you got it back, but gutted for you the state it sounds it is in. Make sure you write everything down as to what's missing etc so you can file it to the courts.

 

Sorry to hear this, makes my blood boil that someone can do this and then hide behind company law.

Is there NO way you can get something done legally?

 

Only way is small claims court so will try but not looking good. The receipt i have has the guys name on but not his trading name so will look into claiming from him directly as well as the company.

 

If this happened to me, I WOULD get some sort of recompense, even if courts faikled me, know what I mean?

 

Jeez I hope the owner gets a right good kicking one day, or castrated with a rusty knife that gives him tetanus.

been keeping an eye on this and had a little "yusss" to myself when I heard you'd got it back.

Such a shame that what could have been a great car has been ruined by them and you're faced with the dilemma of repair or break.

Have to say, if it was me, even tho I'd be chuffed to get it back, I'd want closure to the whole thing and to move on. Hopefully by selling it complete or breaking you can fund something else and get that smile back.

I'm going to sneak in early and ask what you want for the VF28 so if you do decide to sell please let me know.

I am off to collect my car from Williams Engineering in North Wales tomorrow. It blew up 10 days ago and is already fixed and upgraded and coming back to me with 309 bhp....

Andy (scooby net id - WMS) has been amazing and Graham (enginemapper).

Maybe you could pay them to put it back on the road for you and trust that the work will be done good and proper!!... - saves giving the bits to the birds..

 

If I didnt then someone else would have. Think Ste's run out of £ on this car or cant justify the bill for repair, based on losing 2k on a 94 WRX and not having the car for a year I'd admire him if his heart is still in it.

I've had a couple of cars broken into in the past, cant face driving/parking/leaving them after that so had to sell and Ste's situation would feel similar to me.

Sorry mate, not for sale. The modifying bug is in my blood, family and friends have had a whip round and with their help i've already got a Turbo 2000 lined up so it's going on there lol. Also, why oh why wasn't it called WRX here? Turbo 2000 sounds so silly...

At the end of the day it just wouldn't be worth sorting my car out, another rebuild, locks & alarm need changing, possible electrical problems, 2 new tyres, possible brake problems, damp/water damage, new battery, the list goes on and on. The offer of another car i can use, pay for as and when funds allow and that i have some useful parts for already was just too good to turn down.

Something very strange did happen though, can't remember if i read it somewhere or if it was mentioned when i was picking my car up but it was about an EVO that was returned to it's owner on a flatbed after 6 months with the engine in the boot? Not only was it the same garage but the guy i'm getting the new car from knows the EVO owner!

Does anyone think it's worth trying to get a sticky about the garage, problems people have had and the outcome? I know of another 2 people with similar stories and heard of another person that attempted to recover their car but it was locked up inside the unit...

Just missing the battery, MY94 intercooler, brand new BOV and a brand new STI expansion tank cap.

Started dismantling everything already as i'm picking the new car up sunday, can't wait to get back behind the wheel of a proper car instead of my faithful but crap Nissan Almera lol.
