RCM prices: OTT?
#31
The point I'm trying to make, is that if a customer is happy to pay for something at whatever price, they are not being ripped off.
I go to several pubs on a night out, first pubs does a pint of Stella for £2.80, later in the night, I'm paying the same price for a 330ml bottle of Stella.
I'm paying more for my pleasure, bit I'm happy...

I'm sorry, but I don't know your name, but it is exactly the same mate, whether it's £3k or £30k.
I know you're in the body game, with quite a good rep it seems.
Building high spec Subarus can be, and is, expensive. £30k is easily consumed.
I could get a similar spec car built at a 'small' Subaru specialist for half the money of the same spec car from RCM, but I have yet to see or hear of a failure from RCM, and if they have happened, they have undertaken good customer service to avoid any unhappy customers...

Failures is not the argued point here but I can assure you they have had failures as it's part and parcel of the tuning world whether your RCM or a tuning division of a main dealer/formula one even.
The fact is for 30k you would not being seeing that much of what is termed as a big power build these's days, just take a look at F1 CJE's build which I will say is stunning but not what I'd expect for that sort of money.
AND if you seriously don't see any difference between 3k and 30 then your wallet is to big

You can spend your money on what you want....... I've used RCM and the work on my car is bordering on someone with OCD in their attention to detail...
Here's the website of my mate Finlay who decided on going into the private sector rather than the NHS like I did..

He is a very good dentist and check out his prices....

You must have had customers come to you asking for a price, whilst also saying that they've had a cheaper quote elsewhere...?

I'll be buying some parts from RCM, mainly because the parts I want come highly recommended by the company I'm getting my build done by. Sure I can get the parts elsewhere but won't be anywhere near the quality of RCMs!
It's like when I bought a MAF for my mrs' 1.0l Corsa, a motor factor MAF was £35 and Genuine Vauxhall was £160!!! The Factors one went within 50miles, the genuine one is spot on

RCM may seem expensive as everyone else lowers prices in a bid to compete with each other to get business.........
the way I see it is that RCM need not lower their prices as they have spent many years building up a good rep and more years than in most tuners cases..........they were always there from the start big power was deemed to be around 600 and have pushed the bench mark in how big power can become more and more reliable and last longer..........they have come up with certain products not many people can be bothered to do like a twisted set up which is what puts them ahead of most competitors........
I use scoobyclinic but know they deal very very closely with RCM and still I am happy to pay the prices I get off the clinic and people will be surprised in the fact that possibly somewhere in their engine build their is something from RCM...........most 600+ builds are almost guaranteed to have something which shows the quality of work that other tuners recognise.........I think this thread must somehow be aimed towards their smaller more freely available products not made by them but are poss a stock part like lighting spoilers etc etc you can find all over EBAY and other websites, but as always theres a poss scammer out there ready to rip you off............all above simply put its what the person chooses to spend their cash on.........if their prices are that bad don't use them simple as.........and if someone doesn't do research before spending a bit of money then thats their fault

Rip off and disgrace are not nice words to use and are a slur on an excellent company with a great reputation
There will always be a top end of the market in any line of buisness you are in and people are delighted to pay their prices
Tend to find its the ten a penny poverty package cheap buisness that dissapear while the top end get stronger

This thread is a disgrace!!!
RCM in reality are the longest standing tuner around. The prices are high for a reason! Overheads and to attract the right customers. The sort of people who use RCM will most like go by "you get what you pay for". And RCM is exactly that....the daddy's when it comes to tuning racing impreza's you only have to look at time attack to see this.
If you don't like the prices then go else where simples why come in here and start a silly thread?
I doubt RCM will loose any sleep over it so why are you so worked up?

I have to agree with 'LordHarding'.....harsh words....and kind of lose the impact of what your trying to get at by simply attacking the company in such an aggressive way.
2nd to that....the lads at RCM - even more so Ollie have always been superb when I've been there - having used the likes of scooby world, tracktive and having scoobyclinic almost on my doorstep...I have to say I truely believe RCM to have the best customer service and thats no slur on the others because Kev and Ads at the clinic have been great to me.... I just feel like a very valued customer when I leave RCM....and I love that!
Further more, I've said to Ollie that I can't always afford his prices and had him say to me on more than one occassion - Andy if you find something expensive and you can get it cheaper elsewhere let me know and we'll do our best to prive match...
Honestly give the lads a chance down there and don't just go on what the website states - remember they ship all around the world and their prices have to reflect that...but a phone call and quick nip down will probably bring a sursprise to you...
I know this sounds like I'm some RCM groupie - but promise I'm not....I just truely believe they're not as bad as their website prices appear...

I've just looked at the Porsche website, have you seen how much they charge for a car with 4 wheels, seats and an engine, its disgusting.
I went to RCM today, saw the facilities, the cars, the staff and the products. The workshop is like a clinic, spotless in every way. The staff were working ALL the time, not stood around chatting etc, the dyno was in use all afternoon and there were people in and out all day.
Having attended other tuner/supplier premises I can honestly say this is the most professional and would gladly pay the extra to know my car was getting the best treatment, best parts and service. I cant always afford it so have to comprimise and use my judgement about where to go and what to buy, BUT I DONT WHINE ABOUT IT
As above, this thread should be closed.

The word is "professional" mate. Its the 1st time i've been but came away very impressed. Yes, I raised my eyebrows at a few prices but looking at the quality I saw all afternoon, in parts, premises and personnel I'd say the extra was worth every penny.

DON'T close the thread, i think i should be left for everyone to see, we are all entitled to our opinion, and the op is no different.
Best quality.
Best customer service.
Best personell.
All of this costs money, do you think their mechanics are the average spanner monkey,or their back room staff are the average lazy bones office workers.
Quality costs, and that will run all the way through their business, right down to the soap in the toilet, which is lacking in some of the tuners premisis i have visited, one did not even have a toilet seat, ffs.
Leave the thread so the doubters can see what they are paying for...
RCM are a world class outfit and we should consider ourselves very fortunate that they are here and working for all of us.

I know of an Impreza that is on it's forth engine this year. Had the work been originally done by RCM then the car would still be on engine number 1, the owner would have enjoyed all the track days he had done rather than cutting them short (with associated waste of money spent on the day) trailering back a car with yet another knackered engine and he would have spent a lot less money overall. You pay your money, you make your choice.

Having been in the tuning business since I opened my garage in 1983 I've had plenty of experience in dealing with suppliers. I'd say RCM are easily the best I've dealt with in terms of efficiency, and there have been many occasions when I've called them at 5.25 in the evening, and I've had the stuff by 10am next day.
We spend a very large five figure sum every year with them, and every engine we build uses a high content of RCM parts. Of course, spending that much, I get a discount!
We don't buy everything from them of course, but it isn't difficult to see that with certain parts, quality transcends every other consideration.
Put it this way, when you buy your girlfriend perfume, she wants Chanel number 5, not Boot's own brand, and my customers need to know that I haven't skimped on the parts.

Totally agree
And looking at the photos do you think that interior was build by £20 a hour labour costs and making a couple of quid on parts
And looking at the cars and reading their threads over the years there is no shortage of customers nither
And the majority of the posters on here agree with RCM quality and not worried about prices
This could be another ten pager
Ten -15 years ago you had to be relatively rich to afford and run a scooby but now you can buy a scooby with 2 weeks wages but the running costs and new parts are more then the cars worth
Within 10 years time scooby owners will be down to less then a quarter that we have now
Only the rich ones will survive and the enthausists that are left will spend thousands on rebuilding and renovating their cars As future classics
Roll on 2020 at least those of us that are left will agree
