What's to stop anyone buying a faulty "for parts" 1st gen nano off e-bay for a small outlay and then sending it off to Apple to be replaced with a far more expensive 8gb Nano ??

Nothing at all it's worth doing bit of a gamble that you will buy one subject to recall and not one someone has already tried to get recalled and it's been rejected by apple that's all

Got my 8gb in exchange for old one that had sat in drawer as it was not charging. Seeing as I actually found the old one in a park one day (really) I've done quite well out of it.
One thing to be aware of if the returns number is supposedly only valid for a short time - I got mine then by the time the returns package arrived the validity had expired a few days previously. I returned it anyway without taking further action and got the new one in about 3 weeks or so. If you've held on to the returns package for quite a while it is probably worth requesting a new return.

I saw someone at work trying to sell the same thing for £100, don't know if he managed it though, I could have sold mine 5 times over at £60. Got a few people at work emailing me about it

I have a first gen one lying in a draw here somewhere, but can't be fagged to do anything with it as they weren't that great in the first place... so what the f**k do I want another one for? I suppose I could give it to an Apple fanboy, but would rather just throw it away

To be honest and not being funny but being self employed time is money and I can earn more in the time it would take to do all that messing about including finding it in the first place LOL!
