Wouldn't get too excited about all the snow yet as Netweather have just issued this at the end of their daily bulletin.
"Once the depression gets out of the way we will see continental air start to attack from the east. A really snowy spell is looking odds against at present, because some model outputs suggest that Atlantic systems may move too far east to our north to allow the continental air to reach us, while others are suggesting a cold but mostly dry and cloudy south-easterly regime- but a snowy easterly remains a possibility. The only things we can say for certain is that the weather will turn more settled towards the weekend and that next week is still very much up in the air."

Sunday will see the Atlantic, try to push Eastwards, and bump into the colder air in the East. Depending how far the cold comes inland,we will see a Battleground between Slightly milder and colder Air.
Where this will happen will produce a fair dumping of snow..May even Stall over the spine of the UK.
Hard to say that the cold or warmer air will win, not even UKMO METO can predict this, but the trend is for the cold to win out, but this can change from the next model run.
Mass of cold air in Europe ,that we could tap into, if we do, then a good snowy/ cold spell could be on the cards..I mean IT COULD GET VERY COLD.
Will know over the weekend, on how cold and who will win..Keep you updated.

We apparently had some sleet and lightning on Friday afternoon that I didn't see. Apparently, whole sky lit up with it about 4pm on gone Friday here! I did hear another rolling blast of harsh thunder on early Saturday morning, when the rest around here were fast asleep. It went on for a few hours. It has been bitterly cold here since then. Right now, it feels like one of those untrustworthy calms around; holding on to some kind of storm in a gigantic barrel. It could be the snow, as expected. We shall have to just wait, see and take it head on.
