Please don't assume that there is ANYONE on SN who isn't fully aware of the horrors and suffering that this child went through.
The Capital Punishment issue is really for a separate discussion and its status would not have made any difference in this sad case. But I can assure you that those who are against CP are as sickened by this as every civilised human being. dl

What I can't understand is why people would be content to see the perpetrators of this offence serve a custodial sentence and then be freed, possibly to commit the same offence again.
My opinion is that there are certain crimes against humanity, of which this is certainly one, that transcend all normal judicial responses and require the most severe sanctions to be imposed.
I am also sure that, were CP able to be invoked in this case, it would not be the last instance of child molestation we would hear of. But you cannot deny that these animals would be prevented from visiting their sickening behaviour on any more unfortunate children. That is what I call a result.
As ever it is only my opinion.

But since you raise the CP question again I have to say that this crime can only have been committed by people with a severe mental problem. And I do not think we should kill people who are mentally ill. One could argue that the more evil crimes are committed by those who are mentally stable and know fully what they are doing - like the Viet Cong who put bombs into babies' prams or those in Sierra Leone who cut children's arms off. There are some evil people in this world.
If th report is true I would not expect the couple to ever be released from Broadmoor or wherever they are sent.
