Tesco clubcard vouchers are currently worth four times their face value in Goldsmiths, do your shopping at Tesco and pay all your bills using a Tesco credit card and this time next year you'll have enough for a decent watch.

And I wouldn't spend £2K on a new watch either (second hand, different kettle of fish), because the majority is just buying branding and image over tha actual product itself.
Bit like Raymond Weils retailing at £1.5K when I know full well internally they are no superior than a £700 Oris. And guess what? try selling a new one on eBay, and you won't even fetch half that!
I'd go as far to say you have to spend ALOT more than £2K to get a real decent watch brand new that is above and beyond the fashion watches. But then we start moving into status symbols, vulgarity, over what is essentially a bit of shiny polished and plated steel. Then you ask, is it worth the bother above and beyond a Citizen?
A crappy comparison is cars. A Casio is a Fiesta, or Corsa. Citizen a Focus or Corolla. A Tag (GC8: I belive Heur is pronounced 'urrrgh' ) is a Audi A4....a VW underneath or BMW 3 series (boring). A Oris is a Skoda (a VW undereath) Tissot is a Seat (VW underneath), Hamilton or Longiness? VW Passat. Omega? Maybe a cheap Bentley (STILL a VW underneath! ) or new VW Phaeton or BMW 5/7 series. Glashütte Original? Hmmm, Lambourghini? (STILL A VW!! ). I could go on (apart from I've ran out of VAG brands ).
You see, you buy your car based on what you can afford, the image and what you like and find practical. A watch is the same. If you like it, don't let anyone stop you, like nobody stops anyone from buying Kias and Hyundais - of which make some good looking cars, but underneath they are nothing special - like most sub £5K watches.
(Sorry, I've been reading too much 'watch snob' )

No, they're decent watches and you don't have to spend a fortune. The cheapest watch I own is the one I like best and wear all the time. I keep thinking I should sell the others!

Silly me thought I was being helpful
All the links you posted were for Goldsmiths and I mentioned the Tesco deal because some people aren't aware of it. I have no idea what the watches you posted cost and probably would not know a 'decent' watch if it bit me on the bum.

Ali, I think that your assessment is way off, particularly with regards to Oris and Tissots relative positions. Oris are 'Swiss' in every implied respect, making only mechanical pieces. Tissot on the other hand, make mostly quartz watches and are lucky to still be able to write Swiss on their dial. They are trading heavily on their past (the new Visiodate bucks this trend as does the Valjoux movement automatic chrono, but for a long time that was their only decent piece! ) and have been heavily repositioned by Swatch, now competing at the very bottom end of the market.
Heuer is pronouned Hoi-err and like Oris, they arent part of Swatch Group. I love Heuer. The first good watch that I bought was a 1991 4000 bi-colour automatic. This was about two years before 'Tags' became the f*ckwits favourite Turkish knock-off of choice. You couldnt buy a fake TAG Heuer then, but that soon changed and unfortunately Heuer have suffered from from their popularity, rather like Burberry did. I collect Heuer stopwatches now, but the current watches leave me cold.
One further point: Oris are greatly superior to Raymond Weil. Raymond Weil are to good watches what Pierre Cardin are to good suits.

I agree that the watches are overpriced at Goldmiths, I could get them cheaper elsewhere but these are being bought with the afore mentioned vouchers ( 4x tesco points) so its not really a concern as they will be costing me nothing really
So I am stuck with goldsmiths and these are just 4 that made the top of the list

Nowt wrong with them really barring they seem expensive for the brands. Nothing wrong with Casio or Citizen. But I'd be struggling to jusifty paying £300-£500 for any of them. Half that would be acceptable £150ish for Casio, £300ish for Citizen (That's just my personal opinion: I say whilst wearing a battered Ellesse that was originally £150 )
And I wouldn't spend £2K on a new watch either (second hand, different kettle of fish), because the majority is just buying branding and image over tha actual product itself.

one of the nicest watches I had that received lots of compliments was a Guess Watch, I got it from a outlet shop in the states. cost me £30..
I would wait untill your in the shop and are able to try them on, and see them in the light.

- Investment?
- Keeping them in family for generations to come?
- Having that feeling inside knowing that you're wearing a rolex?
- Wanting just to own a Rolex or other brand because you're very much interested in watches?
It could be said about "why would anyone pay so much for that" for literally any product.
Some people would argue, 'why would you pay over 1million pounds for a car' when they could get a car for 1thousand ...still gets you from A to B, just like how a watch tells the time.

I suppose it's all relative to your financial position, if you want a watch and can afford £50 then that's what you spend, if the watch you want is 20k and you can afford it then that's what you spend !!

Anyway! Best timekeepers I have found over the years are casio and Seiko.Japanese.....good at that sort of stuff. My Pulsar kinetic keeps better time than my Longines Hydroconquest.
Just buy what you like!! My only rule is keep away from any make that also makes clothes/jewellery/perfume

This'll be fun
Well I have nothing special nor modern. Of the ones worth mentioning:
Omega Seamaster from the early 1990's
Breitling Top-Time from the 1960's
1920s Dennison pocket watch
1970's Cauny Prima 25
Bulova Longchamp (not a accutron )
Also something a little different from the norm: A Borgezie Tiberius dress watch (who? ), OK its more of a piece of jewelry than a watch; a Solid gold bracelet and case with diamonds etc, made in Birmingham (ETA movement).
Got loads of other junk like a Орион automatic (Orion) a Sekonda One, and a Ellesse chronograph as well a few old Casios
If I see one second hand at the right price, I may buy myself a Spring Drive, a Piaget (or other super-thin automatic) and maybe a vintage Rolex.
So, what cars do I own/drive (no cheating )?

Its an analogy - comparing the class level of cars with class level of watches. They are both seperate, but have similar markets based on how enthusiatic the owner is of that product. i.e petrolhead vs hourologist, a person maybe one, or the other, neither or both. And neither are exclusive of the wealthy: Llike I aspire to have a Piaget Altiplano Automatic, but can't jusify the £12500 retail (although I have seen a few manual winds for £5K used ). The same goes for a Audi R8 V10 manual.
I should point out: Don't buy a Breitling Bentley because you have a Bentley, nor should you ever buy a Oris Williams F1 because you own a FW07, unless you aren't interested in watches, in which case just buy whatever you like.
