Someone needs to buy it as is and as a customer take it back to be finished off lol. Unless the reason to break is a business reason? in which case that sucks. Well it sucks for any reason imo.

No Ryan has, done what's best for him, it doesn't 'suck' and it's definitely not business related either.

I can't imagine for one minute that this was an easy decision and I just hope that it proves to be the right one on the long term. If you can sell it as a part finished project it would mean that all of your hard work would live on - it would be a real shame to see any element of this not be properly recycled into something that show's off your handywork as it is a real testament to your skill with the (spray) gun

Your all quite right, this decision has not been made lightly and it's certainly not going to be easy watching my hard work dissapear before my eyes BUT what a lot of you don't realise or can begin to understand is the length to which I gone to make this project happen.
It's literally eaten up hundreds of hours to customise the shell and all the parts to my own wants and needs and if I haven't been working on the car I have been burning the midnight oil earning money to fund the project which I'm sure you all can appreciate hasn't been easy with the spec the car amassed over the last 2 years.

It's also taken a burden on my family life which hasn't been easy or quite frankly fair on my better half/kids with working all the hours I can humanly manage to do,I have had only a handful of days off in over 12 months with basically working 7 days a week.

A project such as this is a massive undertaking for even the best workshops out there with a team of workers let alone one man on his own which is basically what it has been for the most part and most of you might think that the project is nearing completion but in reality with still needing to paint the rest of the car, refit all the parts, remove dash for more wiring and plenty of other things it's probably 4-6 months away given the amount of free time I get to work on it and it just can't go on.

Now I will spend the weekend writing up a list of parts/prices but I will say this right now to all dreamers, please don't offer silly money on parts as they are all top quality with most being new so I won't be letting them go for peanuts as this project has cost me a small fortune.

Thanks to all who have watched the project over the last 2 years and I'm sorry you haven't seen it reach it's full potential

I certainly hope not, there are plenty of paid for projects that won't have the same burden on your family that you can milk for credit and praise

Bit of a sweeping statement, Ryan. I think you underestimate the majority of the folk who've been following your progress.

Most people will well understand everything you've gone through to get to this stage mate.

I'm sure that I'm not alone in wanting to see you finish this, but, your decision is made. For the right reasons, I should add, as family time is more important than a car.

If it were my choice, I'd stick it out the way and put a cover over it. Come back to it as and when time allowed, not because you wanted to get something done - easier said than done though.

Hope it's not out of place to say, but, feature creap has been your biggest problem. As it is with most projects. What started out as a refresh with a few mods, has snowballed into what you have now.

Like I said above, you've made the decision for the right reasons. Your lass probably blackmailed you though. "Get rid of the car and I won't put sunburnt photos of you on FB anymore."

Give you a tenner for the intercooler rad combo.

Sorry Micky I didn't mean it in a funny way mate and I really appreciate the kind words,it's hard to think about how many follow the progress when it's been so long, posting my work and not only on my own project thread but countless others is quite routine now so I don't really think about it.

Just do something on a smaller scale, but different - I mean, how many people have renovated a forester

BTW, I've finally got my box of bits of to you so you should have them Thursday/Friday - don't cry when you see the TGV deletes - give me a bell as I wouldn't mind talking through an idea for you mate the metal master to have a look at

Needs must, but life is life and no dress rehersal.
Do what you gotta do, do what makes you ultimately happy.

Wish you all the very best Ryan, and we all know that this isn't the end of your projects. Just one gone and a new chapter to begin another time maybe.

onwards and upwards...........

know exactly how you feel Ryan and best of luck - as always if you require anything for on-going jobs just ask

family time/work balance is the main reason i still haven't done anything with many of the bike projects, 2door, close customers rally build, etc.........

i have a hard enough time finding justification for 10-12hr+days, 6days (occassionally 7) a week.........and we still dont get on top of customer demands, so my own stuff is simply far too far down the "queue"

A mans got to do what a mans got to do Ry......This is the best build I've seen in all my years on this board, second to none IMO but at the end of the day its just a car and should always come second when family is involved..

Best of luck fella...

Thanks lads I massively appreciate the kind words

Jay:that's probably the only thing ill regret is that potentially it could have been one of the best classics around but I won't miss the endless hours spent working or all my money going into it lol.

Don't worry I'll buy something special

Standard(ish) is the way to go for me anyway, my S202 will have some cosmetic, handling and brake mods plus a remap for UK fuel and that will be it for me.

I'm not looking for or going down the heavily modified route again, although I will say that if someone wanted an unfinished project that they wouldn't find any better than Ryan's.

Gutted for you Ryan after reading the last couple of pages of the thread - you must have done a lot of soul searching before making your decision mate as you were still buzzing about it when we spoke last.
Im sure whatever you do in the future project wise (great or small) will be stunning and have the same level of attention to detail which makes your work stand out.
Stay lucky mate.

I most certainly have Mick,it's gut renching IMO but I'm not going to sacrifice my family to build a car which is where I was heading.

I'll keep in touch as this isn't my last project

I started reading this thread a couple of days ago and saw that you were thinking of pulling the plug. I then had to read it from the start! Took a while, but I did it. All I can say is well done for taking this on and making such an excellent job of it. I'm gutted for you, but I do understand how you came to the decision. I've had to make the same decision in the recent past to save my marriage/family and it's definitely the right thing to do. There's no point having a nice car and no family to enjoy it with!

Anyway, I hope you get someone with the same enthusiasm as you have to buy it and finish it off. Awesome car. Take the family away on holiday with the money!

This is possibly one of the greatest projects ive seen & to get so close to finishing it well,i think it would of been in a class of its own,but life is so cruel some times, just wished you could of at least drove it to the museum.
it must be devastating, cant you sell it as a whole car so someone can try & finish it i know you must be gutted but if it was mine id like to see it finished some how.oh well another sad day for a great subaru & great bloke who tried.
you no what they say its better to have loved than not loved at all.

This last few days has been some of the hardest I've had,it's been gut renching and up at night deeply thinking about the mistakes I've made and how to fix them.
As you can imagine there has been many discussions with my better half and she has told me where I'm falling short and I now know what I need to do to make things work correctly.

My main fault has been bad management of my time spent at home/work which will now be rectified.

This leads me to saying that Prodriverules is signing back on the project and it will be completed although it will take longer I'm completely happy for it take as long as it needs if everyone within my family is happy.

To have come this far and build such a car and not finish it to get the credit it/I and everyone else involved in it deserves would just be criminal and even my partner thinks so and is happy for me to carry on as long as I 'manage' it better.

I'd like to say I'm really sorry to everyone that either thought they had secured parts or sent money for them,I have already refunded all that sent money via paypal and will now sort out the bank transfer payments.
Hopefully you can all understand and accept my decision on this, once again you have my apologies.

I'm glad it's all back on track and you've identified the weak link in your time management. If there's anything I can do to help give me a shout even if it's just posting some wiring across to me for tidying up

As we discussed yesterday achieving that balance is difficult and sometimes the car will just have to collect dust
