1997 Gary Fisher "Big Sur"

Pretty much OE but then it was a 96/97 mix when I bought it new for some reason. Seen there with road-wheels on as I use it most of the time now for commuting. Had it out in the snow last year - great fun

Got a different rear mudguard now too after the other one came off & got stuck in the spokes

2009 Scott Spark 60

Love this bike. Running SRAM X0 short cage rear mech & X0 grip shifters. Front forks were u/graded under warranty to lock-out version & I changed the OE saddle to a Selle one as a white saddle is plain ghey. XT clipless.

2011 Commencal Ramones AL1

Totally standard and not really had a chance to play on this yet. It was a billy bargain as well - 50% off! Had it delivered to Ireland and its going to be the bike I use to test out the trail park I'm building on my land

Last friday I went and got one of the best mods ever to my cycle collection - rider training! I spent a day with Tony Doyle of UK Bike Skills just learning how to do things properly!! A complete revelation and he had me nailing berms, jumping table-tops, everything

He sent me a load of pics of which the below is one. This is me nailing the berm at the bottom of the hill just after a large drop

(Pic courtesy of UK Bike Skills )

Going back next year for more I think

Yeah the climb to the top goes on a bit doesn't it?! We did it in the afternoon having done Glentress in the morning! Then the following day we did Glentress again but did the Dirt School training with Andy Barlow which was superb, highly recommended.

As for Gisburn, it's a bloody long way from Scarborough! I love the place but compared to Glentress, Inners, Dalby etc it's not as developed yet, very much in its infancy. That said, I love the place! There are some great trails, the new Hope trail is awesome! If anyone fancies doing it, give me a shout and I'll happily show you around

A couple of mine;

My Enduro DH Commencal Meta 5, with 1x9 Saint kit, 36 Van's, Spank rims, CG bars etc.. A new MRP chainguide has just arrived this morning to replace the eThirteen LG1...

An old pic of my Cube Ltd Race, now sporting a carbon post, tan brushed leather saddle and other hope blinginess..

I built a 456 with Fox Floats and XT kit for the Missus - but that's far too pink to show pics..

Just fitted the new winter tyres

Bodski, how do you get on with that Carbon Seat?, guess as you ride racers too you find it bearable?

Wasnt too bad Darren. Not really suited to a MTB tbh. I took it off of a road bike and put it on the Scale for a while. I went back to a Fizik Arione in the end.

totally not into bikes and dont know single thing about them, but lots guys in work are.

i know expense to an extent doesnt need to be justified in hobbies/interests, but are some of these bikes not like 4-6k?

as an outsider just cant help but think you get nothing for the money?

esp compared to the likes of a scooby with all the trimmings being available for that kind of money.

or am i wildly out with prices?

Agree that bikes represent pretty poor value for money. And you're probably 1-2k over the top with the valuation's on the top spec stuff here

I only have the Pro Carbon Stumpy now. I get bored. Just like my cars.

This is how she looks now since i changed the forks, wheels, tyres etc.

So lightweight now.

Mine was £2300. For that you get lots of posh metals, shiny things and some pretty nicely engineered things. You couldn't buy parts and build it up for that. Yes you can buy a brand new bike for less than my seatpost but that bike wouldn't glide down a hillside like mine does, time after time. Also I can go flat out on my bike, fast as I dare, I can wheelie, jump, skid...it's all legal! Do that in a Scoob!

Personally, I'm not into repeatedly lifting lumps of metal... each to their own n all that

yes each to ther own matey, my comment was the lack of somthing for the money. thats all. compared to the engineering input into a vehicle, as an example.

no offense meant, and thats why i stated expense doesnt matter so much in a interest/hobby.

it was just an observation in comparision to somehing with so much more engineering input.

I have one of these and to be honest, I hate it, when I can be arsed I might swap the parts over to a carbon frame to see if that makes it feel any lighter or more sprightly/
