Incidentally - out on my Madone for the 1st time this year and WAY earlier than ever before. I had to take advantage of the stupidly mild weather.

Crazy how much faster you are in warmer weather on a lighter bike.

There may have been some screams as I cycled in - decided on the warm weather gear - just the shorts this time.... exposing my stupidly white legs to the world

39 minutes for the 12.2 miles.... I generally get between 45 and 50 when on the Tricross in Winter.

Now I have some serious cleaning to do... I think CF melts in the dirt

Test riding a Giant Defy 1 tomorrow. Might have a new toy soon

What should I do when test riding a bike apart from making sure it fits?

BODSKI are you sponsored by a fishing gear maker?

Don't point your QR lever fwd like that either, you could knock it open if bumped when group riding.

why won't the computer work............I guess it's because the sensor is near the end of the fork and the magnet near the edge of the rim..

The QR skewer is also on the wrong side IMHO

Comfort. Ease of use. Position on the bike. Brakes are progressive. Gears shift up and down smoothly.

yeah, not that easy to determine if that bike is the one that is right for you if it is a jump up from your current steed as it will naturally feel quicker & better.
Fit the main one - I'd take the basic measurements from my current bike along - crank - saddle height, tip of saddle to bars, saddle for/aft could be tweaked and stem length altered a bit but I'd not want to go outside 90mm/130mm stem really, any less.more than that to me indicates bike size isn't right.
Riding a lighter bike up a hill will just indicate it feels quicker than your old one, try it round some bends to see if it feels right.
Would help oto have 1 or 2 others in the same price-range to compare with but it must fit you ok otherwise you'll get pains and not like going out on it.

Well it was light, nimble (compared to my clod hopper hybrid), comfortable over about 5miles of poorly surfaced Warrington roads and the brakes and gears worked smoothly and accurately.

Will be delivered in wk 16

Was a road biker for years, then got into mountain biking, but coming back to the fold.

Going to be doing a charity ride this year, and we're in the cycle to work scheme so looking to take advantage of the savings. Only problem is, its Halfords or nothing.

Been looking at this

http://www.boardmanbikes.com/road/road_team.html

Any feedback/thoughts would be appreciated

Cheers

Chinese frames (but that's not rare nowadays) always get good write ups and seem to hold their value well. If you're stuck with Halfords then you're not going to do much better IMO

Top tube looks V short mind

Yes, I'll be going for SPD type pedals.

Wobbling off at a set of traffic lights near you soon!

.........practice in the kitchen and slacken them off

Seriously though, if you buy shimano shoes they are funny sizes compared to the normal shoe size you would pick. They seem to be about a size smaller than the size on the box, I guess they have small feet in Japland LOL

Keep them on for a while and walk around the shop to check they are comfortable

I have the MW80s and took a size larger than normal, I wish I'd gone another size up from that. So ignore what you THINK is your shoe size and try some on.

Oh, and you will have a clipless moment - we all do. Share it. Trust me (as long as it's your right foot left flailing in the air as you topple gently left) it'll be funny.

3 times now.

...........I think that's what I meant about the size but didn't say it right LOL

Shaun

Best way to avoid early clipless moments is to unclip quite a bit before you *really* need to

Or learn to trackstand

Then come back on here and tell us all about the moment you realised you weren't going to make it

Love track standing at traffic lights or junctions, you can see cars moving slightly away from you as you're wobbling. Guess they think you're about to drop off onto one side or the other. It is a bit of a bum clencher when you realise you REALLY need to unclip or risk looking a right tit.

I find most road shoes to be on the small side. Certainly Sidi, Gaerne, Diadora & Lake are

Difficult to properly trackstand unless on a proper fixed wheel
