Yeah I saw that it was down to turbo lag. I don't think he read my post but I do and don't agree with him. Like I said I'm not going to argue because this topic isn't an argument about turbo VS N/A.

yes and no. The reason I'm not taking it out is because I don't want someone to crash into it spent to much time getting it etc. Although it would handle the snow much better then my sport.
I'm older now so not as crazy as I used to be. lol.
Wait I just realised you are reffering to me as the stupid driver lmaoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

They are crap because -
125 bhp
0-60 in 11 secs
25 to the gallon if you drive like grandmother
Top speed of 115 mph
Boring and uninvolving to drive
Look even more boring in standard trim (you must not make it look like a turbo without informing insurance)
Expensive to insure considering dismal performance
Need I go on ???
Let's compare it to a Astra Coupe which can be had for similar money-
1.8 16V
125 mph top speed
0-60 in 8.5 secs
Will see 30 to the gallon easily
Look far better
More fun to drive
Better equipped
Far cheaper to insure
No your right, the sport is the best bet........

Mine does 0-60 in sub 9s easily.
I get 28mpg city driving stop start and 36+ motorway.
It's not boring to drive and it's cheap to insure.
I've also driven an astra coupe, yes the top end is higher but that's it. The impreza is definitely quicker to 40 and it handles better. Plus it's a Vauxhall....

Dare I say it but what about a Mitsi FTO, MR2, Celica, any number of hot hatches. All of these are fun cars to own and available non turbo. Just drive a load and see what you like. I had a vectra before my first scoob and loved it, but that was because i didn't know any better.

These would have been in ideal conditions remember, in the real world 10+ secs is the norm for a standard sport.
Please don't think I'm giving my views without ever driving one, I owned one remember. Also the sports are group 13 insurance I believe which is (in my opinion) high considering the cars performance.
My point is this, yes a sport will get do it's job. It will get you from A to B and if the snow is falling you'll be fine. There is however cars out there in the same price range that will do this job better and cheaper.

I find the newage to be too heavy.
Granted there are better cars out there for the budget but it seems your numbers are off.
A Saxo VTS is a whole lot quicker. Or even a 205 1.9 GTi.

My Mrs has a Sport - they are crap! Slow, don't handle (as standard) and are very thirsty. I will say the brakes are better than early 2 pots though.
She loves it though. It has character which a lot of other cars do not have. It is a 1999 classic so apart from a scoop is identical to a turbo. It has the facelift bumper and a mid-level spoiler. The only mods to it are a set of ST2's in gold and a S/S equal length manifold to release the burble (both are declared to theinsurance company!).

I will back you up on that with a bit of tweaking the sport definately is quicker then what official figures state. You own one now and I used to own one up untill a few weeks ago (it was parked up doing nothing lol) so we both can't be liers or we would have been chucked out of WMI a long time ago lol.

The thing is, these young lads love imprezas. They have seen them on the tele and dreamed of owning one. The looks, the power, the noise and the iconic history behind them is what these youngsters want.
However, all they can afford is an underpowered, dated soft Impreza sport. The word 'dissapointed' is a massive understatement.
So these guys are stuck with a sport, they decide if they can't have the power then maybe they can have the looks and sound. Well the sound of a turbo you won't get, you can buy an unequal S/S manifold which will help a bit I suppose but will never sound how you had hoped.
Then the looks, alloy wheels, scoops and spoilers and hey presto, your driving an STI !
Insurance then goes through the roof (and it will trust me) and then to top it all off you pull up at the traffic lights and a kid is next to you in his 1.6 Saxo. The revs go up, your grinning like a Cheshire cat until you realize the little hatch has completely smoked you.
CrewJ, ok 'maybe' a sport will do the 60 in the 9's. 9.99 is still in the 9's I suppose so I'll give you that one chap.
The most important thing here is if you own a sport and your happy with what it offers you then that's fine, that IS the most important thing. Your the one driving it remember so who cares what me or anyone else thinks.
If your thinking of buying one then go test one. No matter what I or anybody tells you the actual driving of one is imperative.

There is no issue - the OP asked for opinions on Impreza Sports and he is getting opinion. Everything Matty is saying is correct in my opinion.
If you are going to pay to insure a 2 litre car then money would be better being spent else where.

Granted a VTS will smoke a Sport but no other model Saxo will. Also that Saxo will cost more to insure.

Going back a while my insurance was due so was shopping around. It was that high that a Subaru wasn't even on the list. From being quoted to unable to quote. SO thought fiesta it is.
£400 fiesta was £4000 in insurance 3rd party!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had quotes saved online and everyday kept re running them to see if there was a change. They went up and down by about £100. Then all of a sudden the impreza quote came out at £1200. Saved it and then went for that instead.
Car insurance is FAKE and wouldn't take it whole heartedly. Just because a car is low on groups doesn't mean its the case when you go to insure it.
Its funny how new driver cars can cost more then the supposidly expensive decent cars.
My mate's polo cost more to insure then his Leon and the age difference of the car and litre size was quite a bit. The polo was a 1.2 1995 and the leon was a 1.8 2004.

a bit off subject but has anyone ever had trouble with insurance over undecleared mods??
i personally have never claimed, but i know someone recently who had an accident in a wrx which was later written off.(cat d)
it had coilovers, brembos, different alloys, exhaust sti spoiler fitted and insurance just paid out.
i would bet 99% of imprezas arent factory standard anymore.

But like I said I'm not 100% sure. Alot of these boy racers will chat a lot of crap and it takes a whole heap of sifting to find out the truth when they say they write off their cars when in actual fact its because they have over reved the engine loads and it couldn't take it. Nothing to do with the insurance but they like to make stories up lol.

These figures only give an indication to the performance of said car though as it is highly unlikely you'll ever match Subaru's times in the real world.
Let's say at best it's 9.5 secs to 60, hardly a great time for a 2.0 16V car in my opinion.
