Right or wrong is neither here nor there.

If you were in a position of needing help then you'd be pretty greatful that help was there.

Not judging either way.

When I say "its what we signed up for", I mean "we" as in health professionals.

Fair enough, your opinion.
And fair play for being in the trade so to speak

That's the thing about it that doesn't make any sense for me. I've never required medical attention as a result of drinking, and can never see me needing it in the future.

Some sad folk out there. A&E on a weekend night is a pretty grim place to be. Last time I was there (Wishaw General), some guy staggered into the waiting room toilet and was in for ages. When he eventually staggered back out, he'd covered the walls and floor in sh*t.

Maybe fines would be the answer for repeat 'offenders' (i.e. those that need this kind of care more than once in a short period). I can understand where others are coming from as far as the difficulty of differentiating between habitual binge drinkers and just someone who's made a one-off mistake goes. Everyone should probably be looked after regardless, but, as I said, perhaps fines (or basically paying for at least some of the cost of the service) would act as a deterrent. It would probably make those most likely to be liable for these fines think twice, as most of them will be close to the breadline anyway.

lol will be for some, but not for those dealing with dirty stinking drunks
Plenty from the LAS are vocal about it.

Its a self inflicted state to be in and as such is all the fault of the individual. Don't see why someone who is genuinely injured and not of his own fault should risk having to wait for attention because of some pisshead who can't look after himself.

Until drinking stops being viewed as a competition sport then things aren't gonna change
I'm one of the other Emergency Service folks on here and I spend the majority of my time on evenigs dealing with something alocohol related.

I was dealing with a trainee Dr who'd been locked up the previous night for hitting a doorman. When I asked her about her drinking she said she didn't consider it a good night unless she woke up the following day having had no memory of what happened the night before.
She did admit she felt like a hypocrite lectruing drunks about their behaviour when she was at work

I hear this over and over.
A girl I know has recently stated she thinks she might have been 'raped' on a recent night out, but has no recollections of most of the night anyway, and only suggests this is the case as she has scratches on her stomach and legs!

Cant imagine considering that a 'good night'.
