We have our HQ on Lac Leman (canton of Vaud) and it's one place I would consider relocating too, if ever I was asked.
For all it's niceness, it still has a few problems we can identify with. At Morges train station I once saw a granny drinking Heineken with a straw at 8.30am.

then got a mountain house in Valais, reid.
it is amazing, right on side of a very steep mountain lol, its a hard walk anywhere, but the scenery is superb, and get a walk uo to the glacier is somthing youd never forget..
the matterhorn is well worth the visit also, my grandad and great uncle climbed the north face in 60.s 70's many times - its so iconic and spectacular.

from what i gather and have read and seen then that valais is where the biggest glacier in the alps is (aletsch glacier). if so they could be worth a trip for sure
how far from montreux is that roughtly time wise and best way to get there. tried finding tours from montruex but they are few and far between

Your staying in the wrong place to spend time in that area. Although if you can get up early and go up the Jungfrau....well, that could be worth an early start (on a clear day).
You have been better off staying in interlaken for that type of holiday.

yeah maybe its out of the question this time, but better that i found out sooner as atleast i no
originally it started out as a nice little 2 days break, just just see somewhere new, but seems there is a lot to see really, and suppose with the terrain being how it is, it isnt cheap to get about anywhere
might just have to stick with rostres-de-naye and chillon, then maybe spend some time in lausanne on the way back to geneva airport

Its our 4th year just gone, every july we go Matt_F
Its like a second home for us, absolutely love it
I was fortunate enough to take the Impreza this year, or shall i say brave enough
We go to a town called brunnen on lake uri, just down from schwyz, and thats our base for 2 weeks, this year taking the car down we managed to do some of the passes over to interlaken.
Although most of the holiday when were hiking, i know its a walking holiday, im forever taking pics of cars and not the scenery

yep been to lucerne a couple of times and also a three night break,
lake lucerne is lovely,
but try and stay at the hotel at rigi kulm, just round the lake, the hotel is in the clouds.
we got a funicular to the hotel, its brill .
one last thing, you must go on the glacier express train thats amazing,
oh and whatever you were taking to spend, double it!!!

its more of a low budget ish break as we will have been engaged a yr when we go and got a wedding save up for in 2013.
just wanted to go somewhere new, then if we like it will defo go back at some point and see other places and sites
looked at the half fare cards but they are like £300 i think, so not worth it for what we want to do really i dont think

just checked trains from montreux to fiesch and takes just over 2hrs and then think cable car takes around 20 mins to the top of eggishorn, so i think it could be done if we have an early ish start
train price is 23chf each way (if im reading right) so around £30 return which seems pretty good i think
