Are there any genunine 400bhp+ Scoobies in the UK...

i was really talking about skylines. a lot of heavily modified skylines have rather large bhp, yet their torque figures in comparison are quite a bit lower.
all i was thinking was that 450bhp in a car that is substantially lighter than an r33 would be quite something. and if it could produce a large torque figure aswell, then all the better.
i am not very technical on these things, and i'm sure there are people here who could give a better opinion. i was just speaking as an ex scooby and r33 owner

give the evo a whirl mate....try it, u just might like it

Reason why scooby owners dont modify them to 370+ is that scoobs standard bottom end can only take up to 360-370(if you are lucky). Then you will need to spend massive ££££££££££ to get any more bhp.I was looking into getting a 2.2 kit but they were asking 10k!!! for 50bhp! thats stupid money for 50bhp.
I got a TT 6 Speed supra now and i'm very happy about it.With an ECU,exhaust, filter,FMI you are talking for 150bhp!!.Thats what i call BHP for your money!!.Same money spent on a scoob you 'll be lucky to get 60-70.Then after that your gearbox and other parts (conrods, pistons) will start falling apart.
Similar story to supras are the Skylines....

Shame they dont go round corners though!
Spudgun,
When I went to ***ey motorsport with Cem, I found out why skylines have no torque. Its because their crankshaft is tiny. The stroke is so small, that you end up with a very revvy engine that has to work damn hard to produce any torque.
not so with the impreza and evo.
Redmonster is right, it does take some serious wedge to get 400+ power out of these cars.
I am sure someone will do it some day, if they are foolish enough!

LOL Adam.
I had some serious fun with my supra this Sunday on the wet!.Mine Adam has got a decent racing suspension and it has been lowered to the floor. It turns good but obviously not as good as a 4wd car.
So much fun though arsing round corners.Looking forward fitting a Racelogic traction control.Original one cuts off too much power..

mine is at 240 bhp not enough, why are scoobies renound as fast cars yet cossies and other cars get to 400 bhp easy, most cossies or calibras round my way are above 280 bhp plus, its anoying seeing scoobies getting thrashed at santapod ect when cossies are down there. oh well!!

To be honest from my 2 year owning a scoob experience,if I could go back 2 years I wouldn't have spent all these big money moding my scoob. You dont get the power that you want.I will tell you what made me sell my scoob.A 0-60 race with a chipped evo M3.Simply I couldn't beat him and then i was thinking what the hell I spent all these ££££ and i thought my scoob was so fast and i couldn't beat an M3???.Thats the reason i bought a Supra..I'm going for the 450+ convertion with 2K!!!.I dont think you can do that with many cars..Too much of a car for your money. After that? Get 2 decent Hybrids and camshafts and go for 700+.On a straight line there will be nothing on this world that will beat such a car-
Total money spent ? with 7K-8K!!!!!!!!!!!! for 700+ not bad Eh?
PS I wish i hadn't bothered with the scooby....

Kostas/Scooby370beast/RedMonster/whatever your username is this week,
I thought your "Beast" (Scoob) blew away Ferrari's and could blow away anything out there? (well that's what you said before)???

I am sure you are correct in that the tiny crank shaft makes it difficult, but it's not true that Skylines can't produce good torque figures. My own car produces 455 lb/ft at 5080rpm (more than an F40 ), and I know there are a few others with similar torque figures. I guess it depends on what you want, a lot of Skyline owners go for big (650+) power and hence use huge turbos which obviouosly sacrifice low down power as it would with any car.
I too would like to see some 450bhp Scoobies, come on, own up whoever you are! (Although from the various mailing lists / bbs's etc I think we have an idea )

Matt, yeah its Kostas,
I didn't say my scooby blew away a ferrari i said that a ferrari couldn't get away on 2nd gear.If I would have a proper race from standing he would have dissappeared.Dont forget that super cars go well after 2nd gears thats when they get going..Also when you modify a scoob(get a big convertion done you have a big lag, yeah i know you can get antilag ecu but how much is that??plus you are stressing your internals). The whole point is the limitation subaru have:Reliability(when you go for over 330 bhp upgrades).Money spent to get there, and then on a stock bottom end with standard pistons, rods etc you wouldn't go that far..

I think you maybe underestimating the cost of tuning Supras and Skylines. You will not get 900bhp out of a Supra or Skyline for the £14k or whatever you spent modding your scoob. You can double that figure at least... In fact you will probably need to treble it!.

Simon, sorry just wanted to make sure you didnt think it was a dig.
I absolutely adore the skyline.
Of course it is possible to get massive torque from a skyline, I meant to imply that the torque never matches the power as a result of the bore:stroke ratio.
It doesnt mean you cant make the torque, it just that it usually comes hand in hand with even higher power.
Big turbos dont just give you high power at high rpm. They can generate a lot of boost too, and in so doing flow a hell of a lot of air.
They may come in later, but if you can force massive boost pressure at as low rpm as you can manage, you will still get a big torque figure.

RM,
TDI don't say that the car HAS 860bhp, just that the turbo's can produce it, and they also say that the boost has been turned down.
I don't doubt that it's a quick car.
You're right, it's a shame that the Subaru isn't as easily tunable as the Supra, but had you have spent your £14,000 differently, you could certainly have had 500bhp.......
But, I think you'll be much happier with the Supra.

Im with Redmonster on this one, Id like a Scoob but I LOVE a Supra, currently my finances wont quite run to a Supra so I will have to make do with My Volvo T5 and Golf GTI. Standard Supra has 320 BHP and a good one costs what 12/13 k, I think 320 BHP would be enough for me and 400 would be mind blowing, how quick can you go ?
Ive been in a 360 BHP 911 Turbo and it scared me witless
My missus likes Supras but the Scoobs are hideous, Supra it is then !

Mark,
I just got a fantastic looking supra TT 6speed with an HKS exhaust,Filter and dump valve,Veilside split rims, Check out the pics for 13K.Fantastic car to drive. My car should be about 340 at the moment.Im getting a boost upgrade which will take it to 380-390!!.I have been in one which produces this power and trust me made my 340bhp scoob felt so so so slow honest no joking about this. When the 2nd turbo kicks in on 3rd gear its just takes off!!.It is a very nice car
Pics from dealer b4 i bought the car:

Kostas,
OK, well what you actually said was:
And then.....
or....
So, I see nothing about quantifying it with a 2nd gear race, just that you've beaten Ferrari's, 993's, sports bikes etc.etc.etc....
BTW,
What happened to this then? Why did you settle for a 500bhp Supra???
Matt
P.S. I STILL don't know the difference between an HKS EVC and an EVC PRO????? Are you going to help me out here???
I didn't say my scooby blew away a ferrari i said that a ferrari couldn't get away on 2nd gear.If I would have a proper race from standing he would have dissappeared.Dont forget that super cars go well after 2nd gears thats when they get going..
I raced a Ferrari modena ones and he thought my car is mad as he couldnt beat me!.He told me:"what the hell have you done at your car???????" I Replied:"Just some small mods" He said yeah right!
AND WHAT about a FERRARI MODENA has 0-60 in 3.9.OR MAYBE 7.5? or what about the F-355 which i 've beaten?
The fact that i've beaten a 993 biturbo and so many other cars makes my car vvvvveeeeeeeeery fast. Do i care whats my 0-60? no why? because nobody can beat me what the F*** do i care if i have 3.6 or 3.7 or 3.8 thats details which i dont bother about. All i care is that nobody can beat me - End of story.
BTW,
And I never said i have the ultimate sports car.The Ultimate sports car is a modified 1000bhp skyline ( my next car )
Matt

So what do you want to tell me now? That I should have bought a skyline? I didnt but skyline for 2 reasons 1) I like the looks of a supra(interior so much better and looks much better from the outside). After research a skyline more than 500bhp is less reliable than a Supra + you will need to change pistons, crank etc etc.On a Supra you dont need to change pistons, crank etc up to 700bhp.Who said 500bhp Supra? my supra will be 700 by the end of this year with 10K not a penny more.Get me another car with that sort of power and looks for 10K...TVRs are crap-Unreliable as hell and too expensive to run+You can't really modify them much unless you are mad(who is going to buy it off you after? )+It will be even more unreliable.
PS As far as the EVC concerns why do you keep asking me? Go to the HKS-USA website and read.Thats what the internet is for..

Shall I tell you also something else? Moneywise:

Thats on stock turbocharger Matt.Do you know what that meanS? If you get twin turbochargers you are talking for 700+. $6000= £3800+£5000 for twin HKS rollerbearing turbochargers = £8,800+Labour= £10,000 = 700BHP+ ON STOCK BOTTOM ENGINE.Is that good or what?

I assumed that all Supra's were 700bhp standard.......surely they need that much power to achieve there book 0-60 times, with the amount of weight they have to shift!!!!!

Yeah a 0-62 of a Supra is 5.0 secs with 320bhp as standard.Get me a Subaru with a quarter mile less than 11 seconds and more than 450bhp for 10K spent modding it and as reliable as a Supra and I will sell my supra to buy again Subaru
