Mate, the clio/fiesta/corsa/nova are actually better value than your sport, handle better and are probably quicker and cost less to insure.

I really dont know why people have it in for the sports?

I love the look of mine, the sound and everyone i see are interested in it. You make it what you like of it, every manufacturer has less powered cars for a reason, it gives people a chance to know the cars and see what theyre like. For one i like mine and it does everything i want it to do. Everyone has a choice of what they buy, otherwise noone would by cars like a nissan micra?

To the OP, what are you wanting to do with the car? Then make a decision.

My original point is.....

99% of sport owners bought a non turbo model because of financial reasons. If money was not an issue then all of the above would drive a turbo model. END OF.

Makes me laugh when you all come on here saying how great they are, how they do everything you want them to and how happy you all are with them when in reality if you had more money you would drive an STI.
And then for someone to say they won huge amounts on the lottery but chose to buy a sport is utterly hilarious.

Impreza sports are an 'ok' car. They get you from A to B in the snow but they are by no means a great car for the money. I completely understand why young lads want them, I even bought a Sierra cosworth replica when I was a lad for the same reasons. (that was also a let down and was sold swiftly).
I suppose for a young driver a sport will fulfill every requirement and also look the part if modified to look like a turbo (and insured properly). Youngsters do not want fast cars as they are still learning to drive (even though you may think your the best driver in the world, lol).

My point is they serve a purpose and you may not belive me but i really dont care, but its as fast as i want it, it handles im sure like a turbo would do if modded (ie droplinks etc). I have no intentions of changing my car for a good few years, especially with the way i have it looking. I dont want to race people or take it for track days so why would i NEED a turbo?

Yes, i admit, if/when i do upgrade my car it may well be to a turbo model but then that would be my decision. When i bought it, the first thing that didnt pop into my mind was i better get a turbo, i wanted a good looking car. As im 28 and have a HGV licence, the power didnt trouble me but i wanted an economical car that looked good.

It is as you say down to personal circumstances and if some one buys a non turbo, cant see the reasoning behind everyone telling them theyd made the wrong decision and should have bought a turbo? I personally dont think they are all as bad as you say, all depends on how they are looked after and i could tell that mine was well looked after by previous owners so tat helped me make the decision.

This is only my view as i own a sport but lets give them a bit more credit where they are due.

HGV driver, I'll bet even your truck has a turbo. Now try and imagine how yor truck would perform without it...........that is the problem with your sport. That has got to be a real pisser.

Youve obviously got nothing better to do than to keep taking the mick, but whatever floats your boat. Imagine carrying 30 odd tonne in your impreza and see how good it is, obviously completely different!

I may be knocking them but i certainly ain't saying oooooo my car is faster than yours - it's a Fabia VRS so is probably in the same ball park
Anyways - the op asked for opinions of sport v turbo and he has had them, and yes the same people knock the sports and the same old sport owners with their inferiority complex and a chip on their shoulders come along and spit their dummys out

I wouldn't dream of taking that bet - way too much stigma attached to owning a Skoda still .......and if most sport owners buy them for the handling them a soggy Fabia with a dirty great engine hung out the front provoking under steer at every opportunity is gonna be the last thing on their list of things to buy

I bet there ain't many contributors to this forum that do 150mph on a regular basis!

Until recently I've always had Japanese sports bikes and would go out and regularly do 150+mph every weekend, it's addictive and probably wouldn't have been long before I ended up in prison or dead.

Hence the sports bike has been part ex'd for a Supermoto.

Speeding ain't big and it ain't clever and is even more dangerous in a car than a bike, as you can get away with a lot more on a bike because you take up far less room on the roads that you're sharing with so many idiots!

Why do people keep bringing up speeding? I'm sure there are many on here buy turbos and tune them to experience acceleration, not high speed (although it will happen).
I couldn't have given a rats **** if my Scoob had been limited to 100mph.

I never go above 100mph in my car...EVER.

High speed does not interest me in the slightest.

A wise man once said to me: "If you're buying a performance car, never buy anything but a top end model" The wise man is my boss who currently drives a 997 turbo.

Like people have said it's personal preference. My first car was a Saxo 1.1 which I had for a week before realising it was terribly slow and just dull, ended up changing for a vtr a couple months down the line. The money I wasted not buying the right model to begin with taught me a lesson.

Lee,

You can't win here mate. Jimmy buys 4 turbos a week and gets grief, you buy none and get ripped too.

I wonder how many is the right number..?

Each to their own
