its a grease nipple i'd pressume to fill the ball joint with grease
also when re-fitting the new cv make sure there is a small smear of grease on the splines them self and that the cv joint goes on perfectley straight with the driveshaft
should go on abit easier

with the hammering you might of pulled it out of the gearbox side m8 thats why you should take them off, by taken the pin out i told you about, you have used the gear box to hold shaft wail you cracking other side with hammer
other side might be fluxed now or it might push back in very light tap with hammer might do it

still movement avaliable in inner cv joint? should be.

if not no big deal..

but as slab has said thats why i remove and hold shaft half way. if inner has no movement remove large metal band, peel back boot, large wire clip up against inside of cup should be taken out (probably inside boot if cv is out), cv slipped inside again then clip put back in (an end stop kind of jobbie), bit of added grease and new band.

Gonna get back to it tonight for the first time since I gave up.

What should be my plan of action? Also does it not matter that those new ball joints have a hole in the top of each one? And where can I buy one of the large metal bands to replace the one I am going to undo on the inner CV boot? Do Halfrauds stock them?

Well that attempt was cancelled by the extreme wind. I will be out there tonight hopefully. Any word on who sells those clips or what they are actually called?

If I had known that the shaft came off and there were stub axles on the box, I'd have had a much easier time with this.

My inner CV is in bits. The ball bearings have all come out of their housing. Can I put it back together or is it screwed?
