Didn't he (Ive) just design to Job's brief?
For example the iMac...wasn't its Job's idea to get away from the 'un-innovative beige boxes' that we all suffered in the mid 1990's. Now to me that's a big thing. Since the demise of the 'real' home computers and mass adoptation of ATX form factor 'PS/2 compatibles' its something that we still struggle to pull away from.
I hate ATX form factors with a vengence, and I applaud Apple for trying to kick away from that trend. Sad to say though that Mac Pros are based on a form of that very design. Well, ok, its more of a BTX, which is just a ATX with some bits moved around - Its still a domineering huge box with a fancy bezel.
So, who's idea was it to get away from the biege boxes...Jobs or Ive? If its the latter then Job's isn't the visionary I thought he was. If its the former, then Ive was just doing what he was told to do!?

In fairness....didn't he design to Job's brief?

Actually the story goes Jobs saw some of the coloured plastic that Ive was working on. Jobs saw that it could be a groundbreaking new product and Ive was told to go away and with free rein explore it
So kind of both of them
