I'm hopefully back with late rooms and looking at booking.com as well. I hate commission but has to be done
And going to speak with vist Derbyshire about a advert

 

-Booking.com are good getting volume but 16% commission is a pain.
-Budget Places also seem quite good and rates are negotiable, will start using them this month.
-Also Smoothound are a good advertising agency with no booking fees.
-Expedia are worth a try too, also maybe LastMinute.com
-Be careful of Visit Britain / Visit... / RAC AA/ English Tourist board etc etc as they charge stupid amounts up front & deliver nothing. They are dinosaurs in today's Internet based world!

Find the nearest Travel Lodge, Travel Inn, etc and see if you can persuade shopkeepers & buildings opposite, with rent to them, to put up banners of your hotel, with cheaper prices, phone no & directions!

No harm in writing down contractors van tel numbers email etc from their car park & sending out your brochure & prices. Or even flyer them in Travel Lodges car park!! If us smaller hotels cant compete with the advertising budgets of the these giant low budget chain hotels then no harm in a bit of direct marketingl!! lol
