Yep it's the talk the kills them. If you don't speak to it while driving it'll be fine.... LOL.

^^^^ hahaha

I'll be fine then, it's for a track car so I wont be in conversation whilst trying to hit mach3

I've got a VF35 I was planning on fitting but came across a 20G and am now considering fitting it.....although I am worried about the box......
I'm aware that the TORQUE produced by the 20G could lunch the box, but on the same hand, I've seen it done plenty!

Decisions-decisions......

Look at my spec, I've had no issues as of yet.

In any situations like this you have to hope for the best, but plan for the worse. Can you afford to fix the box if the turbo eats it? If not, don't do it. If yes, then try it and see!

I would personally say there is a good chance the 20g will wreck it; it's just a matter of time and you'll be looking at upgrading to a stronger box!

Of course, the mapper could turn the wick down a bit, but whats the point in having a bigger turbo if you can't exploit it!

Well I have a spare box already just incase and will be looking to 6 speed eventually. My main concern is time spent changing them out and also not bing able to drive home from sprint events if I lunch the box....

Maybe I should put the VF35 on the classic and the 20G on the blob STI....?

Is the P1 (TY54) box and the V3 STI (TY52) all that different? As far as I knew the casing is the only difference and the gearset is the same?

Awesome spec Matty, mine is looking like it will end up pretty similar- although a bit rougher as its just for track work....lol
Thinking you haven't done many full throttle launches or that though with having to be a little lighter in the box?

TY52 weaker by all accounts, ask David at APi - what he doesn't know about Subaru gearboxes isn't worth knowing

If you're going to be competing in the car, reliability is going to be paramount surely?

My bet is that your 52 box will shat itself the first time you use a properly mapped 20G in anger! If the car is going to have a hard life you'll need a 6 speed in there.

A VF35 with supporting mods and properly mapped is very nice on a classic - great boost threshold and spool and should get you 330-350bhp and smilar torque with less chance of smashing your gearbox.

All depends on how you treat it though.... you can smash a gearbox on the std turbo if you try hard enough!
