I can heartily recommend this place, less than half and hour's drive from Calais/Dunkerque:
http://www.chateautilques.com/
Some gorgeous rooms in a genuine chateau, food is superb and the ambiance perfect.
We took a bottle of bubbly in our car's cooler to drink on arrival, we are cheap that way

I have just looked at flights and hotels for Venice and i am amazed on some of the deals, for a 5 star hotel with flight included its not that much more then a 4 star hotel i was looking at in Paris.

The Lake is a nice old fashioned place (with a new wing)and what a location. Both my kids managed to fall into the lake from the little castle last summer
Molls gap and Windy gap are great drives but not that romantic
