Took the words right out of my mouth... A newage would be nice, but out of my price range unfortunately. I understand I will end up paying more than 3k as will need a full service, but would probs need one whatever I bought.
The whole point of this thread (and my biggest concern) is that I wanted to hear opinions and experience of buying a high mileage Impreza with little or no service history.

The general consensous is to avoid high mileage cars that have poor history, BUT, sometimes if the car is cheap enough it's worth the risk.
Just by spending 20 mins looking/examining a car you can usually tell if a car has been treated well.
In my opinion if you can buy the car at a price that begins with a 2 then it's worth the risk. Worst ways you can stick a new age STI bottom end in and have a well specced and lovely looking late classic STI for less than 4 grand.
