I think its more to do with the hatches not standing out like previous impreza's (at least in standard trim) = less nickable to the insurance companies.
330s is a nice car but a high premium on them. Last time I checked on subaru.co.uk used there were several 2-3 yrs old asking same price as 1yr old 320r....

I bought a six month old 330R hatch with 3.5k miles on the clock for £21k.
Externally it is indistinguishable from the 330S and because the PPP pack plus wheels were fitted from new, my insurance company does not see it as a modified car. A premium of £342 per annum goes down very nicely. Also 28.5 mpg during the 5k miles over the past year with 325 bhp on tap takes a bit of beating.
