I think modding a 11-17 year old classic is not the way to go now and for ultimate coolness
Restoration and standard is the way to go forward
Rust is the thing that is very rarely mentioned on scoobynet yet is eating away at the back arches on all classics ,yet no one has developed a metal replacement arch yet ,the man who does will make a fortune
The chavs are doing their best to ruin what few classics are left on the road by covering them with glue and driving through the stick on tat shelves in halfrauds
Dump valves are helping to destroy engines and te chavs mentality on modifying only and forgetting good old fashion Maintence and servicing and then driving fast round MCD car parks Is helping to get rid of the few classics on the roads
To fiddle with an old engine is not going to work as its worth more then the car so if moddings your game stick to a much newer car blob or hawkeye as it might just last another five years before the chavs spot them and buy them up for a grand or town
Classics are for heated garages and should have more time and Money spent on polish then stick on faster bits

my classic is standard apart from a 100 cell cat, scorpion exhaust and a green panel filter and a bigger intercooler
and i like it ,cant seem to save the £600 for ecotek remap and fuel pump everytime i do something breaks and not on scooby either ..hopefully start saving next mth and get it done next year or dont drive scooby this year have it done by then winter here and wasted me money as its sat there.
so i just enjoy driving it on my days off

ok, to get it to a decent power level you've got plenty of options.
A VF series turbo will give you the power, something like a VF35, 34, 28 etc will see over 300bhp. (budget £250-400)
You'll need an uprated fuel pump and panel filter, plus a 3 port boost solenoid which will cost around £200 all in.
After this you can add a de-cat or sports cat down pipe from the turbo (around £60-100 2nd hand)
You'll then need a remap to support all the mods. The budget way is via ESL for £550 or you can buy a simtek and have that mapped for around £1000.
A decent clutch will also be needed if you've not got one.
Finally, if you're running 2 pot brakes then the minimum you want to do is upgrade to 4 pots + decent disks/pads. Budget about £250 for this.
You "should" be able to do this for 2k, and upgrade the car nicely without going mental.
If i'm honest, if you were to just add a filter, pump, 3 port, decat and remap to your car you'd be shocked at the difference, even on your standard TD04 it would be quite a car.
