I cant remember what it's called mate. I think its similar to the letter they give you for stop and search to stop victimization ect. Ive never had one myself but heard about it once. Why not pop into a police station and ask them?

[QUOTE=Guest;10433291]
I was lucky (???) that after a week of owning my scooby after a long run of owning FWD hot hatches I managed to run out of talent on a greasy bend in the wet. Was driving reasonably spiritedly but nowhere near 10/10ths on account of the weather, but the cheap ditchfinder tyres on the back let go and put me into a long progressive slide coming out of the corner. Whether I accelerated too soon or perhaps lifted off a bit with the throttle I can't remember, everything happened so quickly. Being able to see all the way down the straight after the bend and seeing it was clear, and having watched countless videos of people over correcting slides and getting snapped back off the road in the other direction once grip is regained, I think I subconciously decided rather than winding on full lock and trying to catch the slide, I straightened up the steering enough to keep it in between the kerbs than stamped on the anchors and let it do its thing.

One full 360 degree spin later I've got a massive amount of respect for the car, and I realise I just don't have the talent or the car control to correct a slide in a single lane while staying on my side of the road like the pros do. I was lucky there was nothing coming the other way and I had the entire road to sort myself out, otherwise I wouldn't have ended up sitting in the middle of an empty B road wondering WTF I did wrong. I've owned the car for a month now and still enjoy driving reasonably quickly in the dry with good conditions, however until I've booked myself on a track day and have spent a whole day pushing the limits of the car in the wet, I'm going to leave the hard driving for perfect conditions and visibility. And I'm on the hunt for some 17" wheels with decent rubber as well, why the previous owner fitted Cheng Shins to the back of a 200+bhp car I'll never understand!

I'm still enjoying giving the steering the odd flick when pulling out of junctions and leaving roundabouts to initiate a bit of a powerslide, but so far I've not had the back end stray more than about a foot either side, and I won't any more than that even on dead quiet roads with good visibility and no other cars in any direction. Everyone has a play on the road now and then, be it short bypass races or nipping out of junctions with a bit of sideways action! But all this is safely done with a scooby if there's no other traffic about, pushing your car to it's absolute limits is not something that should be done on the public road and is best saved for the track. The one and only time I exceeded my car's limits could've ended a lot worse for me if it wasn't done on a clear and empty road, so I won't take a corner quickly or muck about if there's anything coming the other way.

Chances are you lifted off after powering ino the corner, The backend just decides to overtake you, Not really much you can do unless you plant your foot again and hold on for dear life trying to make it straighten out with a bit of power but that all depends on how much room you have, Totally different to a delibrate power enduced slide as they are pretty easy to keep a hold of if you have the power to put down as you know what its going to do.

Think you're right, I did a skidpan course in a rwd BMW 3 series back when I was 17, remember how difficult that was to keep pointing the right way under controlled conditions, I'm just glad a few things stuck! Certainly not going to try that again until I'm on a track with plenty of run off.

Just like me. I'm one of those who like to know I've got power but hardly ever use it! And I bet there are lots like me?
My last mod included GT spec headers and de-cat section in the 3" Milltek system, to bring up the target 400bhp and the last time I used full throttle was during the subsequent re-map session, last August!
I tend to use enough throttle to do what I want to do and not WOT just for the sake of it. I also realise that as I've got older, I've got a bit more cautious! The Scoob is subsidised by all you kind working people (and my 50 years as a tax and NI payer!) via my state pension

There is often another reason too.

Crudely put: A car that is 450/450, will perform like a car with half the power (i.e. a pretty quick car) at only 50% effort.

It's a good way of having fun whilst keeping your licence!

You dont have to gun em to enjoy good progress and that is satisfying! That said, it aint half nice when you can give them the beans occassionally when it is safe to do so of course!

Is there a difference between the loosing the back end in a FWD/RWD/AWD car? I've only lost the rear end on a AWD car.

I've had 2 occasions where my rear end has come out on me, once on track and once on a damp road. The damp road situation was easily handled, i felt virtually every moment of it coming out, and had to steer into it only very slightly to correct it.

The other time was at Silverstone and god damn did that suprise me lol, that was in the dry and on club corner where it's a shallow corner and then it sharpens ever so slightly, i was already giving it my best on the shallow corner, so when the extra sharpe turn popped up, i beleive i touched the brakes and turned in, and all of a sudden the rear came out and i tryed to correct it and the rear end just went the other way twice as bad, i ended up missing a wall and doing a good 360 to 180 back lol.

Thanks
Sam

around town and 30-40 speed limits i stick to my guns, generally i prefer tootling around anyhow
but i do have abit of fun on a few national speed limit country roads on occasion, usually on my fortnightly trip to our work DR site or such

cant say ive ever tried to get the rear end out on purpose tho, scared sh*tless
managed a few wiggles in the year ive had it from stamping the loud pedal abit early but they have been easily corrected and not intended.

i did have one sideways moment with a lemon i test drove , coming off a roundabout, scared myself heh, but powered out of it ok and was impressed after coming from fwd cars etc

i really wanna do a track day, carlimits.com or something like that, to get a proper idea what the car can do in the proper arena before i get rid of it
need to look into track insurance..

around the normal day to day roads is just not worth it 95% of the time
