if one of your past times is watching films, a big tv is quite useful and you'd make concessions

if one of my pastimes was watching films -- then i would have a dedicated TV/Film room
as it is the one in the Childrens playroom is good enough, AV amp, surround sound etc
and what really irritates the fvck out of me, is the one time a month i actually want to watch something - can I find the remotes (all 5 of then) can I fvck
drives me up the wall

For starters, on a 50" screen at 1080p the pixels are so small that they are indistinguishable at nominal viewing distances, anything more would be a waste and costly. Ultra high def is designed for huge screens, i.e. the type the will be using in the Olympic stadium, on these the pixelation is a bit more of an issue
As also said even if you had one of these mega panels in your front room unless you've got fibre optic to your house to stream a broadcast picture to it there won't be anything to watch on it. Whatever supersedes Blu-Ray is also a very long way off.
Therefore current HD and/or 3D is here to stay and will be for quite a few years to come. Feel free to wait around for consumer ultra hi-def products though
