I cant drink these bottled ales.
I drink a fair amount of real ale and it just isnt the same once bottled. Basically because it isnt 'real' after it is put in a botle with god know what chemicals to keep it alive for months on end. Proper real ales have a shelf life of less than a week once the barrell opened as it is a fresh product and once drank fresh it tastes awful bottled to me.
Each to their own though.

Then there is bottle conditioned beer where secondary fermentation takes place in the bottle so on opening/pouring is very fresh and alive

Thornbridge Jaipur if your branch has it.
![EEK!](images/smilies/eek.gif)
But sounds OK

Thornbridge Brewery Jaipur

Tasting Notes: A citrus dominated India Pale Ale, its immediate impression is soft and smooth yet builds to a crescendo of massive hoppiness accentuated by honey. An enduring, bitter finish.

I hadn't spotted it wasn't a 500ml bottle. Beers of Europe has it as a 500ml for £2.79/bottle, though I've only ever had it on draft

It can also be considered the ultimate curry beer as it TOTALLY cleans the pallette when eating the stuff

Another excellent beer sold at Waitrose is Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
![](http://www.sierranevada.com/beers/images/2010_Beer_PaleAle.jpg)
The Americans have always been ones for ramping things up, well they have done with the hops in this beer, they're pretty big
In fact there quite a few APA's making an appearance now (American Pale Ale) with massive hops in them. I love them, and in fact it is making English brwers wake up a bit as for a long time the hop content has been pretty lame in our beers, mainly due to the accoutants who run breweries not wanting to use expensive hops
Banks's brew a top quality, highly hop'd beer called UCB (Ultimate Curry Beer). Initial malt and then an explosion of massive hops which leaves a clean, bitter, oily, rooty, viney throat finish - yummy
Great, if you can find it

Bought a bottle of St Peter's Whisky Beer yesterday. It was like drinking a soggy bonfire with a beer can thrown in. If you like peaty malt whisky, you'll like it, but I didn't.

What you may or may not have realised is that the price of beer has shot up since Christmas, so your average price for a 500ml of Pride (yes, me too
) was £1.74 a bottle or @ 3 for £5 then £1.66 in Tesco/Sainsburys. I went in this weekend and that same bottle is at £1.99 with no bulk discounts.
Its price fixing I tell you![Mad](images/smilies/mad.gif)

Now makes the slightly longer trip to majestic worth it again as its 1.62 a bottle in there I think by buying in packs.

Thought I would revive this old thread, any mention of beer is worth of a look.
Anyone who likes a choice of bottled ales & is in the North West should have a look at the selection on offer at Booths Supermarkets, you will be spoilt for choice.
And my recommendation, anyone who likes are dark beer should try Hook Norton Double Stout, a very tasty drop.

Anyone tried Punk IPA from Brew Dog?
They're calling it unusual, and BD are a funny lot. This 'IPA' is in fact an American IPA and not what would be considered English. There is a tipped up balance on hops, which while is to my liking, is what it is - extremely hoppy
