I tried the Hard Core one, and it was foul! It went down the sink!

The local is holding it's bank holiday beer festival between the 3rd and 7th of this month. They were asking or suggestions and it appears my suggestion of Sink the Bismark and tactical Nuclear Penguin were both ignored.

I can only hope that they get Punk in.

Marstons Old Empire
Leffe Radiuse
Leffe Blonde
Duvel (Fastest way out of Cheshire I know )
Old Speckled Hen
Spitfire
Abott Ale
Spindrift
Carlsberg Elephant (never see it now)

Dont like the darker beers, find them a bit cloying.

If the above arent available then my next port of call is the more expensive cooking Lagers like Stella, Budweiser, Becks, Peroni.

Then we migrate down to second division lagers like Fosters, Carling, Carlsberg etc.

If there is non of that left, then I migrate further down to that bottle of Grappa that came with us fromt he old house 15 years ago, Honey liquer, The Wifes Tia Maria, Strongbow, Peach Fizz from M and S left over from Christmas (just out of date), Chocolate liquer etc etc

Then when the booze cabinet is empty, it is Toilet Duck, perfume, Mouthwash, turps, Meths and the oldest yoghurt I can find int he fridge on the off chance it has fermented, home made wine given to us by neighbours etc etc.

If that is all gone, I might have a pint of canned bitter !

Right. I'm having one of these, as we speak.

Bizarre. Really quite fruity. Kind of passion fruit flavour. I wasn't sure at first, but I'm forcing it down!

My local Tesco has got quite expensive for single bottles of beer. Whenever it's on, I try their 4 for £5.50 offer. Strange that Banks Bitter is £1.00 a bottle though. It's perfectly drinkable.

So what was the verdict - OK, or never again?

I wouldn't exactly rush out to buy more, it's very very hoppy with those american hops in there, and takes over the malt a bit too much really, but entertaining I suppose

You're right used to be 6% now 5.4% I think. The flavour is different to what it used to be as well, the problem is it's done in pretty small batches and this coupled with the fact that sometimes there are problems getting the right ingredients means that the taste can be a bit variable. This might change later in the year when a new brewery is opened.

It was ok, but no, I wouldn't go mad for it.

I like the 'Old Tom', that's mentioned further down. Puts hairs on your chest.

I think rank is a bit unfair?

I've settled on Bishops Finger which has a nice "beery" taste plus it's £5 for 4 bottles at Lidl

Nice to see people still at the bar, as it were
