Young's Double Chocolate Stout tucked away for this evening, David. Had a pint of March of the Penguins last night, too - recommended - hints of coffee and roasted grain and fruit. Fantastic!

me and the missus brew our own beer and lager - works out at 33p per pint - we used this wheat beer kit from coopers and kept some empty bottles of Erdinger which we refilled and capped

invited the lads over and cracked half a dozen bottles - not a word was mentioned - then I told them it was home brew and they were shocked - two of the boys have started their own brews now off the back of our wheat beer

Is it expensive to do?

Quick question regarding Brewdog beers...I had a bottle in their bar in Manchester, can't remember which one it was, but is it only available online or do people stock it?

RE: Brewdog - you may find a small selection in bigger Tescos, Morrisons and Sainsburys or I can refer you to here http://tinyurl.com/thebrewdogmap

Anyone tried Nils God Lager, available in Waitrose? I'm not a lager drinker, but it's very nice.

Anyone liking Lidl's Bavaria?

You wont get get a better Pilsner, and for just 99p/bottle. Made from near distilled quality water. Very clean

That review is not exactly a ringing endorsement? Seems to say in far too many words that it is just about OK for a cheap lager. dl

Yes, I didn't really post for the review but the pic I quickly found when posting first thing this morning.

That's just one review, I suggest it's worth a try. For the money, it's OK

Fair enough. Actually I've just been to Lidl, in heavy disguise of course , but didn't see it there. But it was only a quick visit to top up my dwindling stock of Bishop's Finger at 3 for £3.79

I also have a soft spot for dark chocolate and they had 100g bars for 35p.

yes, the village shop has it, and it is very good (although I have rather gone off lager as a whole)

Brilliant beer in Aldi - and it's no exageration it smashes most run of the mill bottled beers

Samuel Adams Boston Lager

DO NOT think this is a lager though, it is for all intents an extremely fine English IPA. The yanks called in lager so it would sell to the home crowd I'm sure

One thing though, the bottle is highly carbonated, so pour from a good height to get alot of it out

4.8% £1.19

DL - you're bang on the money there with WWS. This Sam Adams is very reminiscent of it. You'll love it if you're a fan of the White Shield

Glad someone remembers the old "Worthy".

Part of the mystique of the White Shield was that it had to be stored and handled gently and poured slowly leaving the sediment in the bottle. Grabbing it and pouring ruined the drink. A bit of an art and a pitfall for inexperienced bar staff. Ah I can remember the flavour now

I'll keep a look out for Sam......

Back in the days we used to go on the Easter Rugby tour to Devon and stayed at a place called Burgh Island (before they did the hotel up) and drank at the Pilchard Inn on the Island. Every year the pub ordered in 100 dozen White Shields which were usually finished by late Sunday afternoon

Yeah be careful if your pour one now as you may be a bit shaky

I thought Stingo was one of those home made specials where you really needed a knife and fork to finish it - the beer equivalent of that orange juice "with bits"

Is Scarecrow by the same brewery?

I've just had a bottle of Bee Sting Pear Cider (7.5%), and now I'm on the red wine.

I've had several goes at typing this.
