I would have carbon fibre for the weight loss but i would want it paint matched to the rest of the car.

Surprises me the carbon roof is not much lighter than the standard steel one. Odd!

https://www.scoobynet.com/projects-4...f-fitting.html

tenth of the weight and this comes from a man that has fitted one.

someone in our local club is looking at having one fitted for his track car

reduces weight heigh up in the car where you dont want it.

i think the original roof is around 10kg and a carbon fibre one is just over 2kg

I think it would depend on the quality of the product. Some carbon parts are put together the same way as fibreglass with lots of matt and resin layered up. The expensive stuff thats high pressure moulded imo looks much better and it probably thinner and stronger with more weight saving.

it would have to fecking thick to weigh 10 kg if its carbon fibre.
buy a good one as in the link above, it fits perfect and is 8 kg lighter than a steel one.

so to answer the question, yes its a lot lighter than the original steel one.

Quite like it on bug and blob eyes but classics should be left as they are standard as there. Is so few left now on the roads ,but always keep your original bonnet in the garage or behind the sofa incase you need it again

bonnet can weigh more than an alloy one, my light weight bonnet was lighter than a carbon one that someone had on a car.

ive heard the alu bonnets are lighter than the carbon ones, i dont like em, if i wanted one for lightness i would spray it to match and the older ones go green.

carbon roof is cool though, dont like them carbon teardrop mirrors everyones getting either. i think its alright in small doses or if it suits the car but tbh its been overdone

well, ive gone for the holy grail of all sins and got a carbon wrapped pre-facelift bonnet to fit and to top it off, it has an STI 8 replica scoop, beat that then lads, i think no one can LOL

will "show it off" when i have it fitted

The car is white, so hopefully it will look o.k, for now, i have had to get a black sti 8 scoop and black side vents as cant find or afford real carbon, hey,if it looks good,i`ll keep the scoop black.

wish me luck im gonna need it

Otherwise they just remind me of those bangers that have been in a crash that no one cares about. The owner has just got any old replacement part from ebay or the scrappy thats a different colour and the cost of respraying it would be greater than the value of the car so they don't bother. Classics in particular have this look now.

Many owners could lose at least 14lbs in bodyweight (me included), get fitter and healthier at the same time and save a fortune in lightweight car parts

Im not a great fan of carbon bonnets but carbon boots with no spoiler look good IMO.

Or keep the carbon body colour!

I think the blod onwards have lost the Chav sticker a little. Unlike 5 years ago you need a little cash to support these motors.

The banks have put a stop to the credit card way of life and with high fuel prices.

I fitted a Carbon Bonnet to my 93 RA but the Bonnet was heavier than my old Ally one, the Bonnet is carbon on top, but the underside is made from a Lot of fiberglass to re-in force and strengthen the Bonnet.

I have since gone back to an ally bonnet, but have already decided I want another Carbon bonnet, but will be the CW style as per the bonnet on the yellow Classic several posts above.

They are definitely lighter than a steel bonnet.

My mate has recently fitted a CW style Bonnet to his bug along with carbon boot and spoiler, really looks great IMO.

in my mind a carbon bonnet that is painted to match the bodywork like the one API Dave had on his is very kool you shouldn't need people to see it as long as you know its there =p

Thats just my opinion tho, weight saving for the win!
