ver 5/6 engine will fit bugeye

u needed engine

it was cheaper than most and confirmed good

he provided an engine that DOES fit as it is staggered fitment with correct bellhousing fitment

so he doesnt deserve the hassle and should be left in peace

do u agree ?

Okay as its all saying its a crank sensor fault you need to get the wiring checked for the sensor trace it all the way back and make sure its not trapped or damaged.

Honestly I would pay a auto spark to look at it properly they can do a compnent test on the sensor and check its okay instead of getting more sensors and they will find the fault it might cost you a £100 but it will be fixed..

If its a earth problem the best way to check this as you have only been at the engine would be to get a set of jump leads and connect one end to the engine and the other end to the car chassis or negative terminal of the battery and see if it starts that will give you a good earth

Just my 2 pence worth, but did you fit the bugeye crank timing belt gear and the L/H Inlet cam pulley to the Version 5~6 engine so it will run ??

The engine will be fine its not going to be that if its been to 5 garages it will have been checked. The engines are all the same its just the compnents/sensors that differ.

Yea the crank sensor will just be a push fit should come in and out easy enough.

I honestly think its wiring thats at fault, it's got to be a wrong wire on something or a damaged wire or something not pluged in.

Whats this garages history with scoobys you should maybe take it to a proper scooby specialist or a good auto spark

All systems need plugged in dont leave anything unpluged as everything is interlinked these days on cars

now now people. Play nice.

Im 95% sure it was crank sensors I posted as I dont keep cam sensors. Never needed to because
1, any duff engines I get I remove all sensors so Im guaranteed to have crank sensors
2, the heads I sell, I sell with cam sensor

but if the OP says they were wrong then so be it, I spoke with him today and will send another.

There are plenty of garage names on that list so to get to the bottom of this problem we need to know who built up the engine , who fitted it and take it from there.

I know for a fact the engine is good and had good compression so the text you sent this morning asking for a refund had me a bit confused as its obviously an electrical issue you have.

When I asked if the engine had arrived on the 9th you confirmed it had and 'you were building it up''. The engine was also delivered to your home address I believe and not a garage so this would back up this fact?

You say that Collins fitted the engine, (£200 I believe was the figure and £25 per day storage) so did you build it up then have them fit it? I presume they are the ones who say there is a compatability problem? Ill contact them tomorrow or Monday as Ive sold many 99/00 engines to bugeye owners without any compatability problems.

As you know, I contacted Haddocks Subaru today with your registration number and the had no record of the car from 2008.
Who was the third party they used for the diagnostic test although you told me today that they put it on the machine and nothing came up hence why you might think the engine was at fault and asking for a refund?

Basically, all I need to know is who built up the engine and who fitted it but if 5 different garages are coming up with the same fault (Id have stopped after the second)then Im pretty sure this will be all thats needed and no need for me to book a courier to pick up the engine just yet??!!

change crank gear with timing pickups
and also change passenger side top cam pulley ( lh inlet )
both these have different pickup points for the crank and cam sensor and need to be changed as merlin said when using v5/6 engine on a v7

cammy the engine came out a a classic mate

look on the bright side, the engines probably been turned over that many times without firing up that the oil pressure will be bang on when it does start...........

Get the garage to swap over all the pulleys and fit a new timing belt while theyre at it, ill send the sensor and youll be fine

Exactly like I was saying different components, these should have been swaped over if its a classic engine I thought it was a bug one at first but apparently not, use the old ones off the old engine or your ECU wont recognise the signals from the sensors..

Well done that man on these pics by the way
