If it's blindingly obvious that someone has made the money for an organisation, nothing is obscene. It would be relative to the amount of money in question, and a matter for discussion/negotiation between the owners, the management, and the employee(s) in question

It would be better if shareholders were to see to that rather than government, but it seems so many shares are held by institutions and they have no interest for whatever reason? There is a big alienation of capital owning from capital managing like I said before. This cannot be good for an efficient market to work.

the Financial crises was a massive failure of corporate governance

if corporate governance allowed RBS to buy ANB, in a multi billion dollar buyout, on the strength of a 15 page A4 ringbinder of information (and that was not just a one off failure)

then I am sure such weighty matters of CEO pay where pretty much rubber stamped
I was answering a specific point raised by ChefDude on objectives.

I also completely disagree with your comment based on experience.

I am reminded of a great story where a local council were presented with a multi-hundred million complex planning approval. The documents were complex and huge. In a three hour meeting they spent five minutes on the planning approval and then spent the rest of the three hours discussing expense policy.

Stuff they relate to and have a personal stake in gets a lot of attention.

As usual you are being the provocateur - enjoy

...and it does stand and is exactly why Goodwin is out of a job. He probably missed every single one of his CEO objectives in 2008 and was ousted.

That's not too bad, considering the nine or so errors in your post.

Maybe true of small businesses (I decide how much to pay myself). But not in the corporate world. A CEO doesn't decide how much he is paid.
Try a bit of lateral thinking, it might open your eyes Trout.

I happy for the CEO of any company to get a bonus of 200% of their salary if that company improves it's performance. As long as the same is applied to each and every employee of that company.
