This is one we've seen before. There needs to be a hole drilled in the case when a Simtek is fitted. Any loose swarf from this process can cause havoc if it gets onto the board. We did have one brought to us once that did the same thing you're complaining of. It's Worth pulling the board out and check it with a magnifier.

Mine used to do that, you simply need more cold start time and effort from a mapper like JGM.

Just sounds like a cold start mapping issue, should be fixable with a bit time spent on it.

The primary complaint seems to be a bad misfire, I'd be looking at that first.

Exactly correct. Stray interference is something that many aftermarket ECUs are subject to, for instance leading the temperature sensor wire along the front mount intercooler aluminmium pipe. All very easy to rectify.

Here you are blaming your ECU. Set up properly the ECU is very capable. Bob Rawle probably knows as much as anybody else and more than most about setting up the tickover and cold start on the ECUs. Specifically if you have an issue with the cold start, has your car been left to stand overnight so Bob can start it from a cold situation and recheck it 8 hours later or whatever to ensure a cure has been effected. Bob is a stickler for detail and he will not leave a car with a cold start issue if it is indeed a cold start issue he will want to rectify it.

exactly and he has mapped it 3 times! and yes it has been left over night and mapped the following morning, poor start, rough idle, engine stalling, misfire these are all things that have happened since the ecu was fitted so are you saying its the mapper not the ecu?

Bob mapped my Impreza when I swapped over to a Simtek and it's been faultless with no cold start, idling or misfire issues.

In fact Bob has mapped all 3 of my Impreza's, when he was mapping the Simtek he took a lot of car with the cold start and idling, making sure that he was happy particularly with the idling.

I would have 100% confidence in Bob knowing his potatoes and there being other issues at fault other than the mapper.

my simtek was fitted about 3 years ago, only prob i had was idling ,that was sorted asap.

would be nice if the existing simtek owners could upgrade to the new one with a trade in price with the old one.

Steve if you're going to be moving away from the current simtek and start selling/distributing the new one is there any chance of getting a discount on the customer programming kit for my current simtek?

i'm no mapper but i'd like to have it anyway, can't justify the current price especially since i'll most likely never use it or at least 95% of its functionality.

I already pass them on at what Alcatek charge me! I will ask the question and if they will do a discount I will pass that on.

Second hand ecu sells for ~£700 privately, well they did before this Simtek V 2 was released.

I know they cost significantly less trade!

Don't expect a great trade in price.

Oh Ty (CF) ,we let you leave the Welsh Section for 5 minutes and you cause havoc!!

I have a Simtek in my classic, i don't belive its been mapped correctly (by a well known mapper on here, employed by a well known impreza ''specialist/dealer'') on the cold start, missfires quite a lot on cold start up, especially when its getting toward 0 degrees outside or less. Wasn't impressed with the information (or lack of it) that i recieved once the dealer had taken my £1200, in fact as i was leaving his (well known) establishment he stopped me to tell me that he'd forgotten to show me how to use the twin-map features!! With it being a 400mile round trip for me i didn't want to spend another £100+ on fuel and be spun a load of bull**** again and not get my issues resolved.

I accept that these issues are mapper related, and not ECU, however i felt the need to vent some frustration!! Apologies.

The ECU does do what i want it to do, it does have its issues, but i will be taking Ty's advice in the near future and having Bob R to come bvisit me when the car is cold to sort the issues out and also activtate the LC and AL.

It would be nice to have these supposed updates (if they ever materialise), but like others, won't hold my breath.

Any of you disgrunted Simtek owners want to swap for my Autronic SM4? currently harnessed for V3-V4.

This is solely down to my mapper doesnt map the Autronic..

Not a Simtek owner, or any aftermarket ECU owner, so no axe to grind.

I was under the impression that the "new" Simtek, from posts read, was very recent etc etc.

Well if it's that new, why has Steve Simpson had one running in a hatch for 8 months?

http://bbs.22b.com/cgi-bin/ultimateb...7;t=001929;p=3

Screen grabbed, in case it gets edited

Well, if that's the case, then existing customers should have been advised. How many have bought Simteks in the last 8 months?

Bad crack in my opinion.

I know that technology moves on and I don't blame Simtek in the slightest but I do have a real problem with Alcatek myself. From information that i have received it's as a direct result of their lack of Alcatek development that the current Simtek never got the much vaunted updates.

I haven't seen any information personally but I understand that Alcatek are now going to market the current Simtek unit themselves but at a lower price point than it sold at under Simtek; so not only do I feel screwed over by the lack of development also my Simtek is going to worth considerably less as well.

I have some personal experience of the Alcatek level of service and it's appallingly bad, it's no surprise to me that Simtek looked to another manufacturer when they wanted to develop a new product.
