Seriously though mate i`ve been collecting/trading in vinyl for nearly 20 years now since i was about 17/18 years old, There are so many different pressing of beatles LP`s but if you put a box of 50`s/60`s/70`s records in front of me regardless of who they are and with the odd exception i can tell you what they are worth, From my experience most dealers will only pay 50% of the value and Ebay is the only place to sell them for the good money, The market depending on the artist and the Beatles are THE most collected artist can get very fierce at times, I sold a Hendrix LP last for over £500 when its only really worth half of that but hey if someone wants it they will pay what they want for it, Its all good

Sorry to borrow the thread for a question to Gaz. We have several hundred old vinyls, singles and LPs, from 60s/70s which are just sitting in the attic. But they are mostly well used so would they be worth anything or is the money just for top quality "as new"?

Hi David,

Obviously the big money is in the `Mint, As new` vinyl but who bought a record 50 years ago and never played it, They were meant to be played and destroyed at partys etc... which a lot of them have been from my experience of looking at them,It really depends on the Artist/Genre as the more collectable stuff is in the 60`s/70`s but obviously not artists like Ken Dodd, Jim Reeves, Peters and Lee etc...

My collection is based more around the original 60`s R & B/ Mod/ Psych/ Progressive rock era`s, Artists like The Stones, Small Faces, The Who, Pretty Things, Kinks, Early Pink floyd and then it tends to get pretty weird with the 70 prog rock, Ive got quite an eclectic taste and my music collection probally ranges about 60 years(I`m 37).

The answer is No they dont really have to be in mint condition to be worth anything, Certain artists or issues of an LP or single will sell regardless of condition if it is the right artist/pressing and label etc...

I know its probablly a bit of a daunting task but if you can get me a list or even some pics of what you have i should be able to give you and idea of their worth but pricing is all depending on condition, An example is in mint condition something could fetch £100 if it has a couple of undesirable marks which cause the audio to deteriate it it could then be worth half, Then if the sleeve is damaged even less and so on.

If you need anymore info PM me,

Hope this hepls, Gaz.

Thanks Gaz - very decent of you to give me a comprehensive reply. I am going to hang onto your pm address becuase I may well get back to you. Our stuff is mostly the popular stuff of that era such as the Beatles, Who, Simon & G, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, James Taylor etc etc. Thanks again. David
