ive had both also, god im in my forties now gulp...
ive never tracked cars. q though, they need 4 things. acceleration, braking, lateral performance, reliability......... oh and the driver of course

from what i gather the op drives his car on the road mainly.

therefore, we need two different animals here..........

I'd bet it's more like 10k spent, if add all the bits and bobs.

I can tell you i have my moments where i um and are about selling up and cutting my losses.

Don't believe the 6 speed boys, i think it spoils the car, and at 350 bhp a 5 speed wrx is quicker in real terms than a 400 bhp 6 speed, and i know its not a popular point of view, but that doesn't mean it's not true.

Be very careful in making your next decision, as by the sounds of it your on the verge of throwing another bag of money at it, and i don't think you will end up with a better car.

I think you really should consider just putting another 5 speed in it and leaving the power where it is, because new turbo, fmic, injectors, fpr, headers, gear box, remap ect, ect and you will be pushing 4/5k when all said and done, and i know for a fact it won't go 5k better than it did.

And don't forget you only have sti internals which can let go above 400, now i don't mean to sound like a doom and gloom merchant, but think long and hard, sometimes in life less is more.

Holy Moly ID, £15000 in and you have a 360bhp Bug WRX with busted gearbox.

You really need to step back and think about this buddy. Before you know it you will be £20K in, is a 400bhp bug WRX worth that HUGE investment. I completely understand how you feel, your in deep now and you know your never gonna get anything like your money back.
I don't know your financial situation but I fear your getting yourself in big debt with this project. Is it really worth it ???

listen, dont worry about how much the car owes you, i have been in a similar situation with a blob sti, car costing 9k then rebuild etc etc, it all adds up (15k + in fact)

however you could have had another car which the engine went, you would still have been spending the money on that to fix, or another car with a gearbox failure.

end of the day if you enjoy driving it and you are passionate about it then spend the money, just dont over do yourself.

you could get rid of the car today and cut your losses, buy another car and have the same problems, at least you know YOUR car has had the money spent on it on all the bits.

breaking him on paper based on quick sale prices i can get over 4.5k so going ahead with that im afraid , which means i can ditch my forever increasing garage rates !! saving me more money and saying good bye to owning a turbocharged performance car and hello to cheap show car ownership i think ? always wanted a stunning paint job and air bag suspension so my api built engine "still with a bit of warranty" is now up for grabs
along with the turbo . once ive sold the engine i can then break the whole car .

You don't know how the box was treated before you got it, though...

I've got 25k miles out of my wrx box at more than 350hp now, including several track days.

When it breaks, I'll probably fit another wrx box tbh, as they can be had for about 350'ish on ebay, so I'm not sure if it makes sense to go 6-speed at these costs (given that they can have synchro issues etc etc)

Now i think your going to the opposite extreem, just buy a low miles 5 speed and enjoy the car a while longer at least till the end of summer, it will still be worth 4.5k in bits regardless of a few more months, and who's to say you'll have better luck with a different car.

£350 for a box is not alot of cash in the greater scheme of how much time money and effort has gone into this one.

If your lucky the 6 speed can be had cheap, I bided my time and ended up with box/diff/prop and shafts for a very good price, just took a long time of looking around but I was in no rush

this sounds like the sensible option as a bug wrx second hand is not exactly a high priced car.
fix it enjoy it and sell it on when its working 100%
