Welsh nationalism.

TDW just likes to argue about anything involving Race, Nationality, etc...

Sure it is a subjective identity? But if the identity is built on bad history or myth is it not an identity of delusion??

I'm not sure passion is the best basis for politics.

Is it about the need to believe? In one's own worth or that of the tribe or God/s or a celebrity? I wonder if nationalism is simply another attempt by humans to construct an identity and meaning in order to guard against the perils of nihilism.

I was promoting the passion, not the politics. When I compare what the Welsh (and the Irish and Scots) have to the shambolic English nationalism I feel admiration and a little envy. It seems life-affirming to have a sense of national identity. I agree that semi-constructed nationalism should not underpin a movement beyond petty flag-waving; it's proved a dangerous thing.

Evident whenever an English rugby team ( not the national team) play one from the above countries in the Heineken cup.
Also, having need to visit Edinburgh fairly often, one can feel the patriotism all around you.

Are you a Plaid supporter then, Jimbob? Believe in a separate Welsh state? I can support the romantic ideal, but not the actual break-up of The Union.

You have the state deploying welsh identity in the form of mandatory welsh language lessons, then a welsh assembly which sprouts up from that soil.
I'm not saying it is all sinister but it is surely irratinal. There are some sinister 'blood politics' in it as evidenced here with the claims about Celtic genes etc.
Even if the identity is ethnic-cultural the corollary is that other identities are inferior.

Its crap, same as Scottish Independence.
Maybe thousands of years ago maybe.
Fair enough we run the Principality, separately from the English, but as a part of the UK.
But the Scots go one about English oppression, we had it worse, but guess what that was hundreds of years ago, get over it.
But its populist crap that gullible idiots will follow, identity is one thing, trying to start a nation on hot air is going to end in tears.

Its just a retort to the denial of history, denial of a national identity pre National Assembly, and spurious crap coming from TDW.
I`m 1/4 English, and can trace my family back to pre Domesday in Wales and England, so have been around these parts for a loooong while. And not an Anglo-Saxon amongst them all lol, Scandinavian yes but deffo not Anglo-Saxon.

I don't think this logic follows. Just because we Welsh have a sense of national identity and pride it doesn't mean we feel superior to other nationalities (except perhaps in the good rugby years).

Erm duuuuuuuuuuuuuuh, its cos its who we are
We were born here, our families are from here, your an adopted Welsh person (you can`t opt in, you have to be accepted).
What ever it is it makes you Welsh, part of a community, part of it like the rest of us.
If you can`t get your head around it jog on, and live in your castle with its moat around it.

I honestly didn't believe it was this sinister.
Jimbob is justifying burning down other peoples homes on the basis of blood and it is an identity that you can't join only be asked to join.
Seems Jimbob gets to decide who is who is not Welsh? How do you decide Jim?
