why should i pay for a part your company broke and the bodged up??? i then went to leave and go elsewhere when you stated "oh so you want me to pay for it then, fine give your details and we will call when its in"then i leave,a week later i return to have part replaced, not allowed to see work being done and then when i get home all the intercooler pipes are loose and i have to re-do myself.so sorry for not being very happy at the service i recieved at your garage.end of alan.

This is what actually happened.
The man booked in for a clutch change. The car was an early Impreza with the slanty intercooler and stock dump valve.
When the plastic pipe was removed from the valve, the feed in pipe from the intake broke. It's plastic, and had been on the car for some time. They get very brittle.
Our brief was to return the car that day.
We searched the building looking for another intake pipe. No joy. I rang the only person likely to have one locally, no joy. We used Superglue to hold the pipe together. No other choice in the circumstances.
When the man picked his car up he was informed about the problem, and told to get in touch if he had an issue with it.
It subsequently failed. I don't know about you, but I find Superglue to be anything but.
So there we are in the office, in comes the man. He's huffing, and clearly spoiling for an argument, I can detect that one a mile off. He's already worked himself up before he got there.
He told me that the pipe had failed, in his own style, finishing with "AND WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?"
I'm now thoroughly on the defensive, no surprise when you're approached like that in an office busy with customers.
I therefore said "I don't know, let me see, er, fit a new one? and I suppose you'd like me to pay for it?"
As he was already wound up, that didn't go down well.
I arranged to get one, and call him when it was in.
On the appointed day, he arrived, face like thunder. We fitted the pipe, free of charge, he left, face like thunder. No mention of the clutch, which was the purpose of the original visit. I assume that was fine.
Here's an alternative.
He comes in, having been informed about the problem, and tells me it's failed.
Irritating I know, but he accepts that these things happen sometimes.
I offer to replace the pipe at my own expense.
We smile, and arrange a repair. No bother at all.
There's an old expression. You get more bees with honey. Which strangely enough is the theme of my latest "Total Impreza" missive..

And I didn't lie, interpretation of events was occurring at your end.
Can we finally agree to consign it to history now?
As Basil Fawlty said when the befuddled old man was running around with a shotgun going on about vermin. "The War was a long time ago, forgive and forget Major"

well my businees has gone elsewhere so that says it all about what happened.if people ask for feedback on local tuners then i will give my opinion the same as everyone else on this forum is allowed to do.not everyone agrees and have had good and bad experiences.i had used you before for my last scooby right up to the point where my garage was broken into and all my new stuff waiting to be fitted was stolen thats why i went back again with my latest scoobie.i have always found martyn brilliant and trust what he says.but what happened has tainted my view of engine tuner.i now have nothing else to say as the engine tuner fan club are ready to string me up now....joke lol

how common would someone say it would be for an engine to go pop while on the dyno?
and should a tuner be able to see this approaching while he is "tuning" the car on the dyno? ie oil/water temps etc.

No more common than cars blowing up on the road.
You also of course need to clarify go pop, ie spin a bearing, spit a rod clean out of the block, melted engine due to obvious detonation, bend a rod, seriously overheat and so on and so on.
We can only monitor what we have at our disposal on the car in question and quite often are asked to tune cars without oil temp, or pressure readings relying soley on the OE pressure light.
Many owners also forget the basics prior to a rolling road session, oil level, water level, tyre pressures etc etc. Get the basics right and it can save everyone grief.
