Be prepared to give it time though Les, took about 7/8 races for the BBC to get it to a reasonable standard and a lot of these people are working together for the first time so they need time to learn about working with each other in live situations.

Think it makes sense to be honest as the race starts at 6am and they will pick up a lot of viewers with the later extended highlights broadcast who wouldn't have got up for it anyway so I see their logic there. If they have to have 10 they can't show live the early starters make sense as ones they show on highlights only.

Brilliant! The best racing 'tator in the UK! He is the most objective; extremely professional. Just describes - but excitingly and with genuine enthusiasm - what he sees. Non-verbose.
In the old days of Eurosport, when F1 was FTA on there! , he and John Watson had great 'chemistry'. Really enjoyed their paring.

If you have a Sky digibox then HD is 408. And SD is 459.
It CAN'T be any different, as Sky don't provide any channel sorting facility in the menus. It's a deliberate policy of theirs; for the 'benefit' of customers to familiarise themselves with the channels' EPG numbers...

I don't have HD and can watch channel 408, and can't watch 459 which on mine comes up as sky sports F1 HD, as it states i have to upgrade.
I'm not able to watch the HD pack as i don't pay for HD, so can only watch SD.

That's strange.
As the whole point of having a twin, SD, channel - on a different number - is for those who don't have an HD subs., can still watch it (but obviously in SD).
In the above scenario, then the HD version of the channel would just show a static message reading something like, "...Call blah blah to upgrade your subs. to receive this HD channel"
Confused.

Oh hold on!....
The reason why you can watch 408... AT THE MOMENT... is invariably because it hasn't shown the first event yet. - i.e. it's prob just FTA for the preview progs., etc.
But, you can bet your bottom dollar, that as soon as first practice is aired, then it will be scrambled - so you would have to use 459 instead. Scrambled from that point on, either forever, or at least for 'new' and live programmes - i.e. it could well be that any preview repeats on 408 will still be FTA (in between actual live events).

I know Sky are known for being a bit generous when you start haggling with them and I'm wondering if I can get a deal out of them as I'm on the basic package with the extra channels on, no Sky Sports or HD, but I wouldnt mind the movies and F1 for not many notes

How 'pointy' (but grippy) does the Mercedes look!
By contrast, how much of a dog does the Ferrari look. Understeer on the way in; horrible snap oversteer on the way out! Did you see Alonso having to take multiple stabs at the wheel, rallycar style? WTF.
