If it is standard the highest boost you would see is 1.1 bar on an STi and I think from memory 0.8 bar on a WRX or UK spec.

If you have a boost controller try reducing boost and post back. If no boost controller is fitted start looking at the boost solonoid and associated hoses.

Do you have a boost gauge fitted?

What year and model is it?

It has a gauge mate . It is a 1994 ra wrx ej20 close deck. Just bin out in it it is boosting up to 1.1 bar if I try keep the boost under 1 bar it don't splutter or misfire. If I get a boost controller what one is best and do I need one that plugs in too the 2 wires that r going too my standerd boost controller? Thanks

Buy a manual boost controller for a few quid on eBay to test out the theory, if it works invest in something more suitable and electronic if you wish.

With the electronic type you will have to splice wires, with the manual type iirc you just swap the three small pipes to the controller.

It was years ago that I had my impreza but from memory...
I think I leave your standard BCS (boost control solenoid) plugged in else the ECU will throw you into limp mode.

Wire in the new BCS solenoid and transfer the small bore pipes to the new BCS, what brand do you plan on using, HKS?

If you are using a new standard BCS just swap everything like for like.

A manual boost controller uses a simple spring to set boost. There are many how to films on YouTube.

Perhaps someone could confirm?

Ok mate I will. Seen on YouTube some one saying about the spring in the waste gate depends on how low you can set the boost so hope I can get it too go down to 0.9 bar eh

Yes, the minimum boost can go is set by the actuator (the piece on the side of the turbo).

On some actuators you can adjust them by using the nuts at the end of the arm. Try the manual controller first as this may rule out a few things.

If you can fix it yourself yes. The original STI is the best of all marques in my opinion. Lightweight, 280 bhp unmodified, equals RAPID!
