Youngsters and no insurance
#31
You need to remember though 90% of insurance companies refuse to quote any price for 17/18 year olds, so it's not as if they are after the high premium.
They don't want to take the risk, no matter how much you youngsters are willing to pay.

That's obvious. I got a quote on the old Audi, just for a bit of sport. They quoted 10k

Here are some questions for the government and insurance industry:
1. How does the Aussie government afford third party insurance for everyone at the rates they do?
2. Why can't we do it?
3. If you are SERIOUS about getting un-insured drivers off the road, not just about making money for your friends in insurance, WHY DON'T we do it?
4. If car insurance is such a big loss maker, why are there SO many adverts for our custom, on every night?
5. Why don't they spend less on advertising and drop their prices?
6. And why have the bigger companies set up little satellite companies to get more custom?
7. Why do they give huge discounts to GET custom, but won't give any for KEEPING it?

Apparently the 'insure the box' company are pretty cheap for the young drivers.
Not sure i'd fancy having a tracker in the car recording my every move though, and i think they stipulate the car can't be driven after a certain time of night.

Here are some questions for the government and insurance industry:
1. How does the Aussie government afford third party insurance for everyone at the rates they do?
No PI claim issues out there
2. Why can't we do it?
UK law makes it too easy to claim, and people are greedy
3. If you are SERIOUS about getting un-insured drivers off the road, not just about making money for your friends in insurance, WHY DON'T we do it?
Many people will always drive un-insured unfortunately, it isn't a price thing
4. If car insurance is such a big loss maker, why are there SO many adverts for our custom, on every night?
They want as many queries as possible, so they can pick the good risks
5. Why don't they spend less on advertising and drop their prices?
Why can't Tesco do that? My annual shopping bill has gone up a LOT more than my insurance. They need to advertise to get the business.
Most TV ads are for price comparrison companies, rather than actual insurers.
6. And why have the bigger companies set up little satellite companies to get more custom?
To get a bigger share of the market i assume?
7. Why do they give huge discounts to GET custom, but won't give any for KEEPING it?
I don't know.... i certainly don't work that way (as lots on here know)

More snooping. We must be the most watched nation in the world. I don't think it's right that an insurance company can tell you what times you can drive

That's why a lot of us on here are with Moley above. Rather than fecking about with the above situation, you pm him or phone him. It's genuinely a piece of pish and saves so much hassle. when I bought my 4th Impreza last September, I didn't even bother with the internet. Moley got a pm and it was sorted out at my convenience over the phone Beaudiful.

I am sick and tired of those adverts for PI Lawyers. If I had my way, I would put them all on a boat, float them to the middle of the sea and sink them. My Son is having a right job getting sensible insurance quotes. He is 21 and passed his test a few months ago. I can't get him on the Scoob, so am trying to get him a Corsa or such. Even that was quoted at over £2000. He's a student FGS
These parasites have a stall in our local town now. Good afternoon sir have you had any accidents in the last 3 years, you could be entitled to compensation. With the sky high parking charges and the other morons trying to accost you in town, it's just one more reason not to go in there.

They DON'T get that their insurance must cover the other car which could be a Veyron.
So they go uninsured.
But if the premium was around £300 TPO, like in Oz, maybe they WOULD buy........
And over there they buy THAT part of their insurance with their tax disc, so easy to check.........

One of the cheapest we've spotted for insurance for new drivers is the Daewoo Matiz - the really old box-on-wheels shape. It may not be fashionable....

Greed, pure and simple:
When I had an accident, I well remember getting the std solicitors form for a sub 10k personal injury claim from one of the parties involved. This is how they responded to the questions on injury
1) Did you require medical attention at the scene of the accident?
No
2) Did you go to your GP/the hospital after the accident?
No
3) Have you missed any time off work following the accident?
No
4) Has a medical professional reccomended that you seek rehabilitation treatment for any injury?
No
But I'll still try and claim thanks!
Now, don't get me wrong: insurance is there to ensure that no one is financially burdened following an accident. If there was a genuine injury/hardship, I have no problems with people claiming!
But instanes like the above is nothing short of missappropriation and boils my p*ss.
It's far to easy to make spurious claims these days.... and WE'RE the ones who end up paying for it!

This is the only one I don't fully get: There are a few uninsured drivers on the roads BECAUSE they have been quoted £2000 to insure a car worth £500, or less.
They DON'T get that their insurance must cover the other car which could be a Veyron.
So they go uninsured.
But if the premium was around £300 TPO, like in Oz, maybe they WOULD buy........

Unfortunately it's the TPO part of the cover that's costing the insurers money. The only way the Oz way would work is if the law here changes, and less PI was claimed.
My personal idea would be that if you have a fault claim you should have to part the first £500 of the other persons payout yourself.
See how many people would drive carefully then.
(You only currently pay an excess if you claim for your own car)

I don't beleive for a second that the costs of PI claims accounts for anyhting more than a token percentage of recent rises. If that was the case why don't the insurance companies stop encouraging claim culture ?

This is completey wrong IMO. The other thing I do not understand is why, if claims cost so much, do insurance companies sell you details to people who harass you constantly to put in a claim ?

Like i said, £2bn in both 2010 and in 2011 in JUST whiplash claims.
Yes, some companies do sell your details, and i don't agree with that (none of the insurers we deal with sell your details AFAIK).
But even the Police and Ambulances are selling details to PI companies apparently, so it seems everyone is at it unfortunately.
Once the law changes things will improve, but that's down to the government and courts, not the insurers.

Even if the insurance was £100 i think 95% of those who drive un-insured would still do so.

I've always said & i will continue to say it... Insurance companys simply CANNOT justify their sky high prices, They are making a LOT of profit especially from younger / inexperienced drivers.
That's why we bought one, Then tried to insure it... couldn't get a quote under a grand and that's was on a ltd mileage policy with me being 28 yrs old and my gf being 26 and with both of us having several years driving experience (0 ncb though as they are being used on another car)

Can't believe how far prices have risen for new drivers even since I started driving. Me and my friend passed our tests in 2004. We both had fairly identical P and R reg Clios and were paying about 1300 and 1250 from what I remember. All the other guys we knew were paying similar. TPFT obviously.
Prices just seem to have got out of control now. There were a lot of crashes back then, but mainly only involving our cars taking detours into fields and obviously not costing the insurance companies anything. Suppose there must be a lot of bumps going on in towns with these young drivers. That's the only thing I can think of that would justify these astronomical pruces.

Give Liverpool & Victoria a buzz on 0845 6405620
When they give you a price go "tut, tut, that's about what I am paying at the moment, is that the best you can do?" They will often come back with a better quote.

Using RPI, £850 in 1994 is £1,320 in today's money, so £3k is more than twice as much in real terms as you were paying back in the day.

I'm old enough to remember the 80's and the level of car crime........ I paid £1200 for insurance back then at the age of 27-28. Mind you I did have my car nicked 3 times in 18 months.................
